I am going to try to get to confession today, (snow storm here, and it isn’t stopping anytime soon!) and haven’t been to confession in over a month, and before that it was well over a year.

I remembered a past sin that I did not confess last time, do I bring it up this time? Also, I am not very familiar anymore as to how to make a good confession. I can’t remember much more past “Forgive me Father for I have sinned, it has been _____ since my last confession.”

Please give me any advice. Thanks!🙂

Peace!:gopray:

This site may be helpful for you.

Thank you for that. I am very nervous because my sins are very embarrassing. I am sure that the priest has heard it all before, and I am sad because the sins I confessed before are ones that I am confessing again. I feel that maybe I shouldn’t wait so long between confessions, as I am struggling with a very personal struggle with a specific sin.

Yes, any sins you forgot to confess you must confess the next time you go. As your confessing you can also tell the confessor something like “and also any other sins I committed that I may have forgotten”. Hope that helps.

Sin is never easy to talk about nor should it be. Otherwise we would take a very casual attitude towards it. The best way to make a good confession is to be honest and to lay everything that is on your heart out there trusting in God’s mercy. After all, He already knows our sins before we confess them. Finally, remember that confession is essential for reestablishing a right relationship with God, the Church and ourselves. The sacrament is there to HELP us not embarrass us. I will say a prayer right now that you will find the peace of mind that God’s grace from reconciliation can give us. God bless.

The last line there of course does not mean that one is not to confess what was forgotten…If you remember one later --one is obliged to confess it.

Such goes for MORTAL sin only.

(those with scrupulosity --discuss your case with your confessor…they can be in a different boat for they can tend to remember all sorts of things that need not be confessed)

Then say, "I accuse myself of the following sins:

State your sins in number, kind, and circumstances (if necessary).

When finished stating your sins say, "For these and all the sins of my past life, especially those against (Insert a virtue which you find particularly difficult) and (Insert a virtue which you find particularly difficult), I am humbly sorry and ask for a penance and absolution.

After that, the priest will give you some counsel and ask you to make an Act of Contrition.

For that say, "Oh my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended thee, and I detest all my sins because I dread the loss of Heaven and fear the pains of Hell, but most of all because they offended thee, my God, who art all good and deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of thy grace, to confess my sins, to do penance, and to amend my life, Amen.

If you’re like me and suffer from having your mind go blank the moment you step into the Confessional and close the door, literally write everything down word for word on a piece of loose leaf or legal-sized paper (I hate when I have to resort to the “legal size”), and take it in with you.

Thank you all for the help. I did go to confession Saturday, and although it wasn’t easy, it is nice to know that those sins are now forgiven. Deo Gratias42, next time I go I will take your advice and write everything down.👍
That would be easier than fumbling for words for some of the more harder to speak of sins.😊
I am going to try to go to confession on a weekly basis if I am able to.

Peace! :gopray:
