can anyone help me please?
i want to make a great, soul cleaning general confession. my mom set up a appointment for me to do confession with the priest that i’ll have to go to in a few days. 😦 both the priest and my mom are worried about me because i have not been to confession in a while. also i have not been receiving Jesus for a while at Mass but have managed to hide this from my mom who would freak out totally. 😦 i have problems with my sins. i’m having a hard time figuring out what i actually did do and what is a product of my scruplous/over imagining mind. i’m having a hard time figuring out how to describe my sins without adding extra stuff, over explaining, hiding nessicary details, etc. also i’m not sure how sorry, if at all, i am for all my sins. i’m having a hard time with all my stupid sins. i don’t want to hide sins or mess up my confession because i have in the past and i feel nearly hopeless most of the time about my spiritual health of my soul. 😦 please help me because i want to walk the right path and be with God forever in heaven! if any priest could answer my questions, too, that would be great. no offense to other answers, your help is welcomed, too! thanks!
p.s. i’m under 18 but over 14.

The Priest is there to help you. Don’'t be afraid. Just tell him you have’nt been to Confession in a long time and he will help you. Hope this helps. God bless.

Sweetie, your original post seems to be a very good explanation. Print it off and just read the priest your concerns at the beginning of Confession, so that he knows what’s going through your mind and so he can give you better advice.

Trust in Jesus, and go to Confession. 🙂

Do yourself a big favor and try to be an adult about this. Your confession is only between you and your priest-who is acting in the place of Gd in forgiving your sins. Your parents have nothing to do with this, and have no business into prying into it. It is something completely between you and Gd.
First, go on to any search engine and enter “Examination of Conscience”. You will find many choices…They are all good, but you might find the scborromeo.org or fatima.org sites particularly helpful. Then, after school, go to your church, kneel and say a good Act of Contrition, Then, pray the Rosary and afterward sit in the pew and mentally ask G*d to help you make a good confession.
Following all of this, go to your rectory by yourself and ask to speak to a priest. If one is not available at your parish, go to the largest Catholic Church in your downtown area. They usually have a priest available. When you see the priest, tell him of your concerns just like you did in your inquiry on this site. You will find that he will be completely understanding and helpful.
You will be amazed at how good you will feel after making a good Confession and recieving Communion.

Yeah, it is kind of weird to have one person set up a Confession appointment for somebody else. But of course, the practical fact of most Catholic kids in the US and Canada is that they can’t go to Confession, Mass, or anything else, unless their parents take them in the car, so it’s difficult to have proper ownership of one’s own spiritual life. The suburbs are a big ol’ prison of roads not meant for bikes and not accessible by bus.

And of course when I said “print it off and read it”, I didn’t mean the parts about your mom and the priest!

Be not afraid 🙂

What* needs* to be confessed?

Only mortal sins.

Venial sins and unnecessary details of mortal sins need never be mentioned (though of course it is good to confess venial sins one does not need to seek to
“get em all” directly said in confession…they can be forgiven in confession or even in other ways…hence it is good to end with “and all the sins of my life”)

Examine what your mortal sins are (if any).

I accuse myself of:

Murder 3x
I stole a car and later returned it
I missed Sunday Mass a few times I am not sure of the number -maybe 4-5

One is *not *obliged to confess “doubtful mortal sins”.

(ordinarily a person with a “normal” conscience or a lax conscience can be advised to do so…but often a person who is scrupulous is advised not to…)

(if they are confessed…one simply indicates too that there is doubt)

As for contrition…remember “emotions” here are not central or necessary per se for a valid confession. What is important is one will. Ones choice. Our emotions do not always follow what we want.

You noted you struggle with scrupulosity what is important for you too is to tell the Priest of your scrupulosity and ask him to help you with your confession.

And for the future you need to have a “regular confessor” if you can who can guide you in overcoming your difficulty with scruples. Such is the age old way.

Jesus of Nazareth the Good Shepherd loves you. In him is true life even in the midst of your struggles. Turn your eyes towards him with faith and confidence. Know that it is he who will absolve you of your sins and give you more and more life.

The first I imagine can have a good one- (I have not seen it) (it is the site of the Catechism …with a great search feature!)

(in any case select a good one…find one that is approved for from a very good source…some can be not the best -or in your situation make things worse for you).

But stay away from the other one…the person did not realize that --that it is of the co-workers of Fr. Gruner --a site NOT to be recommended (for more info one can read on the Catholic Answers site as to why).

just tell the priest exactly what you said here and let him guide you
in fact you can cut and paste your post and print it out
then just tell him all the sins you can think of
there is no need to fret about what is venial or mortal just say what is on your mind
keep your mom out of it, she does not need to know any of it.

Ask if you can do it Q&A style where the priest asks questions and you answer. A priest who knows what he’s doing can get a pretty thorough confession that way.

Another problem is the tiny window that our parish sets up for confession. There is a half-hour on Saturday afternoon before the priest vests for the vigil mass.

Is this the ‘narrow door’ that they speak about in the gospels?
