A fairly common sequence, especially when a formal Act of Contrition is recited, is as follows:I am not questioning this practice, (everyone experiences Confession in the way they have been taught), however I have never been taught to say something like this. To me it seems rather redundant to say this and then say the Act of Contrition, which basically says the same thing. I was taught to just go straight to the Act of Contrition after confessing my sins.
-confession of sins by the penitent with concluding statement as discussed above
-giving of counsel and imposition of penance by the priest and the request for the Act of Contrition
-Act of Contrition by the penitent
The concluding statement lets the priest know that the penitent has finished mentioning his sins. The request for the Act of Contrition lets the penitent know the priest has finished his counsel
