Confession - new procedure?

I am not questioning this practice, (everyone experiences Confession in the way they have been taught), however I have never been taught to say something like this. To me it seems rather redundant to say this and then say the Act of Contrition, which basically says the same thing. I was taught to just go straight to the Act of Contrition after confessing my sins.

A fairly common sequence, especially when a formal Act of Contrition is recited, is as follows:

-confession of sins by the penitent with concluding statement as discussed above
-giving of counsel and imposition of penance by the priest and the request for the Act of Contrition
-Act of Contrition by the penitent

The concluding statement lets the priest know that the penitent has finished mentioning his sins. The request for the Act of Contrition lets the penitent know the priest has finished his counsel

I agree. Normally I would say “for these sins I have confessed and any forgotten sins I am truly sorry” but I was unaware that we should specifically ask for penance and absolution.

We didn’t before but do now. We have to take that leaflet into the Confessional and follow it.

Probably it’s to make Father’s life easier. This being Adveng, a lot of people may be going to Confession who have not done so in as much as years, and the form saves Father having to individually correct every penitent.

Yes it makes it easier but changes have been made, at least during my time as a Catholic since 1992. In all the countries I have been to Confession I have never had to make responses or formally ask for a penance and absolution. Now we do.
