What’s the obligation with cofession? Is it once a year durinig lent, or during Easter time? How does this work?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Can. 989 After having reached the age of discretion, each member of the faithful is obliged to confess faithfully his or her grave sins at least once a year.
It’s mandatory to receive Communion a minimum of once a year during Easter. Thanks, I had a feeling that it was a mandatory requirement to go to confession around Easter time but I guess I was wrong, not that i’m looking to do the least required of course.
Once a year, full stop. What’s the obligation with cofession? Is it once a year durinig lent, or during Easter time? How does this work?
Thanks!
Again, I’m not trying to figure on the least acceptable practice of my faith but… My question now is -Once a year, full stop.
It is customary to go during Lent, because we are required to receive Holy Communion once a year at Easter time, and we can’t receive Holy Communion in a state of mortal sin.
Not if you have not committed any mortal sin - but for a normal person, how likely is that? Obviously, if you are under the age of seven or not mentally competent, you don’t have to go to Confession because you could not have committed a mortal sin.Again, I’m not trying to figure on the least acceptable practice of my faith but… My question now is -
Are we required to go to confession at least once a year even if we have not committed a mortal sin???
Thanks
thank you,we are obliged to confess mortal sins once a year, and to receive communion during the Easter season. if you have really made it a full year without a mortal sin, please find the link to the vatican website so they can get your halo ready.
Dave - you may be confused because the faithful are under obligation to recieve Eucharist at least once a year at Easter:Thanks, I had a feeling that it was a mandatory requirement to go to confession around Easter time but I guess I was wrong, not that i’m looking to do the least required of course.
What?we are obliged to confess mortal sins once a year, and to receive communion during the Easter season. if you have really made it a full year without a mortal sin, please find the link to the vatican website so they can get your halo ready.
And remember Lent is Not the Easter season.§2. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter season unless it is fulfilled for a just cause at another time during the year.
[/INDENT]If you were only going to receive once a year at Easter, it would make sense to go to reconcillation at Easter before you recieve.
That was funny. Can I use that?we are obliged to confess mortal sins once a year, and to receive communion during the Easter season. if you have really made it a full year without a mortal sin, please find the link to the vatican website so they can get your halo ready.
Because we are required to receive Holy Communion once a year.I think canon 989 needs to be fixed. the Catechism (which aint canon law) says the second precept of the church is to confess once per year.
Canon 989 says grave sins once per year…which doesn’t make sense to me. Grave sins should be confessed ASAP not just once per year… and if one does not indeed mandated to go to cnfession once per year…well then why does canon 989 even mention the words “once per year”. ?
The instruction says that we are to receive Holy Communion at least once a year during the Easter season. Are we required to receive Holy Communion once a year full stop. Or do we have to receive Holy Communion during Easter as well?
That’s how I understand it, yes. To “make one’s Easter duty” is to go to Confession during Holy Week and receive Holy Communion on Easter Sunday. What if we received Holy Communion outside of Lent and Easter, are we still required to receive Holy Communion during Easter?
