Confession on Holy Sat

I was wondering if priests hear confessions on Holy Saturday. I would like to go before I go to mass on Sunday.

Call your parish. You may need to make an appointment if no confession times are scheduled on Holy Saturday.
 
Mine is until 4:30 PM (They say 10:30 to 11:30 and 3:30 to 4:30. But knowing them, it will be 10:30 until 4:30)
 
Our parish has confessions Wednesday, Thursday, three times on Friday and an hour on Saturday this week. Check the parishes in your area, not just your own.

Every parish had extended hours for confession, and communal penance services with individual confession, all during Lent, up to and including Wed. as part of the bishop’s initiative on the sacrament of penance. this was accompanied by special programs on public TV, education and sermons in the parish, and even ads reminding Catholics to confess during Lent.
 
I’d find time to go before Holy Thursday. We can’t even get into the church on Holy Thursday. The priest is off at Chrism Mass.

Sounds like at my Parish. There are Confessions today (Monday), Tuesday and Wednesday before the 9 a.m. Mass and before the 6 p.m. Mass as well a after the 7 p.m. Mass until all are heard. Then on Holy Saturday our Priests can sit and hear confessions just about all day.

That’s rather surprising, at least, coming from your bishop. While the emphasis is certainly laudable (and he gets smileys for that 👍 , since our local ordinary has not done much in that regard), there will be many people who are probably seeking the sacrament of penance during these three great days.

You would think that the priests would make themselves available, at least during the nocturnal adoration when people start visiting the seven churches. At our parish, confessions have been scheduled during the time of adoration on Holy Thursday, then on Good Friday and on Holy Saturday. This also holds true at other parishes throughout the diocese. The Cathedral is holding a communal penance service with individual confessions on Wednesday.
 
Thank goodness for our lovely parish of St Patricks here in Sydney city - their special charism is confession, so not only are their confessionals staffed 9.30am-6pm each day this week, there are confessions on Easter Sunday itself! 👍 :clapping:
 
We had a special Day of Reconciliation yesterday in all parishes in the diocese with confessions being held from 3-9 PM. We also have confessions on Good Friday and Holy Saturday morning. Holy Thursday the priests are off to the Chrism Mass and I am left holding down the fort by myself. At least it is quiet and I can make final preparations but I really would love to go to the Chrism Mass.

Baltobesty - where you at the Chrism Mass last night? I was, along with others from our RCIA class. We had the front pew right behind the pews reserved for the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen parishioners. One poor elderly priest nearly tripped on his robe, but Msgr. Jenn - how was the chrism mass? I have never been, but I know all the priests go to “renew their vows.” when you said “the elderly priest”, did you mean Fr. Hynes?

I haven’t been to the Chrism Mass in several years. Was it just lovely? And don’t you just love the Archbishop?

I live in Tokyo and was pleased to find that one of the larger Catholic Churches offered extra confessional hours today! It was so nice to be able to go and not be rushed. I was worried I would not be able to find any Churches offering the sacrament and was pleasantly surprised.

It shows that God knows what we truly need, and will always provide it!

I did not say the bishop discourage confessions these 3 days of the Triduum, I said our priest is occupied virtually every waking moment of this time with his parish and diocesan duties, and cannot do more than the heroic effort he has made all through lent to be as accessible as humanly possible for the sacrament. I am sure parishes with more than one priest will do their best to provide the opportunity for those who for whatever reason could not take advantage earlier in the week of the many, many chances given to them. Those priests with missions are not, sadly, Padre Pio and cannot bilocate, so they just cannot do more than they can do.
 
Confession was offered at the co-cathedral today. We had the option of going to the rector or the bishop for confession. :cool:

I am glad. I know it is challenging for priests to hold it on Holy Saturday but I really appreciate it. It can be hard for those who work to attend communal celebrations during the week. I had hoped to, but ended up being stuck at work late. So I was very grateful to be able to go to confession yesterday.

Our church also offered it today during Mass so they made the sacrament very accessible.
