My wife and I are both converts. My wife is much more open in general then I am. She is also very worried about doing things rightly. When we made our first confession we talked about confession a lot. She in particular wondered how to confess certain sins. So I had a very detailed idea of what she was confessing. None of it was surprising or at all shocking. I didn’t share much with her. We did both share our penances as this was a new and interesting thing. We did both share general experiences in confession since again this was all new.
After our conversion she has continued to ask me how to phrase things in confession, with decreasing frequency, and mentioned things she intended to confess. I continue to not share. A few times she has asked me if I confessed something in particular or if that was the reason for my going to confession. She shouldn’t ask that and I told her such. She means no ill in asking. I know she thinks we should share everything. I know neither she nor I does. I also believe that it wouldn’t necessarily be good to share everything.
