Confession question regarding First Saturday and Divine Mercy Sunday

First Saturday for April is April 7, and Divine Mercy Sunday is April 8.

So, am I correct in thinking that I can go to confession once on April 7 and have that confession count for both First Saturday and Divine Mercy Sunday, assuming of course that I manage not to commit any mortal sins between Saturday and Sunday?

I’m 98 percent sure the answer is “Yes” but I just wanted to make absolutely sure I don’t have to do two confessions next weekend to cover both devotions. Do you agree?

I think this is better for spirituality than liturgy and sacraments so moving there.

Not as up on this as you but I think one confession counts for indulgences within 20 days?

Thanks - I know I’m good with the indulgences because the confession I make for Easter covers 20 days.

First Saturday is a specific devotion though where the confession within a couple days of First Saturday, to be offered in reparation to Our Lady, is considered an element of the sacrament. The rule is coming from Our Lady through private revelation, and not from the Church (the Church sets the rule for indulgences and the Church grants them). So I normally go to confession every month on First Saturday, or occasionally within the couple days before, to meet Our Lady’s requirement.

Same for Divine Mercy Sunday - I can get the Divine Mercy Sunday indulgence with no problem (that’s granted by the Church) but the Divine Mercy Graces, which are separate, are conferred by God, according to private revelation, and confession within a couple days is an element of the requirement for the graces.

Now I am presuming that Jesus and Mary do not expect that we go to confession two separate times, which would likely mean going twice on the same day in this instance, since almost all confessions around here happen on Saturdays, so I am hopeful that one confession will meet the elements for both devotions, as that seems like the common sense approach.

(And think how much rougher the year would be if I hadn’t been doing all this praying since about March of last year…the Holy Spirit must have inspired me to pray a lot more knowing things would be getting rough.)

If one confession is good for several Plenary Indulgences I’d say one is good for First Saturday and Divine Mercy (just my opinion).
 
My opinion is you should write a short email to a Carmel Monastery. I am sure it will be worth it 🙂
 
Tis are you referring to the Papal Indulgence on Divine Mercy Sunday, or Jesus promise to us.

So, it is clear that the confessional requirement does not have to be met on the Feast itself. That would be an impossible burden for the clergy if it did. The Communion requirement is easily met that day, however, since it is a day of obligation, being Sunday. We would only need confession again, if received earlier in Lenten or Easter Season, if we were in the state of mortal sin on the Feast.

Wasn’t always so.
Also, one has to be careful when one’s status of life changes radically, that one doesn’t fall back into bad things.
 
@Roseeurekacross @Tis_Bearself I don’t know about “Divine Mercy Sunday” because I only started reading Saint Faustina’s diary recently by influence of a dear CAF member.

I would however say, for the benefit of my CAF friends, that I have read and practiced “First Saturday Devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary”. The conditions surrounding First Saturday Devotion are very subtle, and I was happy to practice it many times to the best of my knowledge and ability without having precise and rigorous understanding of the conditions. And one of the hardest and most rewarding things for me, was coming to practice the devotion with the pure intention of “reparation”. And I mean, pure intention of “reparation” with complete disregard of self and of any gains I might attain from practicing the devotion. Counting the times I practiced the devotion, I have however not been able to practice it for the straight five months. Because work always left me in such a state of exhaustion I couldn’t muster the stability to follow through with it. So please my friends, say a prayer for me so I can fulfill the devotion with all the conditions.
 
I’m happy to say a prayer for you. But I don’t think you should be so hard on yourself.
Mary our mother is happy to see her children making a good effort to make her happy.

Thank you Tis_Bear 🙂 your prayer and kind words are much appreciated. You are right, I must trust our heavenly mother and entrust myself to her.
 
I intend to go to confession on that Saturday, for both the First Saturday and Divine Mercy indulgences. Kind of glad they are so close together this year!

P.S. This last year–I am sure the Blessed Mother had a lot to do with it–I started the habit of twice a month Confession and it has been a real blessing; in fact, a game changer in my spiritual life. Just saying.
