I went to confession today, and confessed my sins. I did my act of contrition, and I feel much better. However, I don’t really “feel” sorry. I feel bad that I don’t feel sorry, and I will not (at least I will try not to give into the temptation) to commit those sins again, but I feel like I should feel deeply sorry, which I do not.

Any advice?

As you seem to want to know the sorrow of having sinned (and so better to understand the joy of being forgiven) you may choose to meditate on the first sorrowful mystery of the Rosary – the agony in the garden. The fruit of which is sorrow for sins. Think about how aggrieved Jesus was by your sins. Put yourself there.

Don’t rely strictly on feelings since they may or may not be accurate. Since you went to confession you ACTED as someone who is sorry for his sins and that may be more important than what you FELT.

I agree with the above - if you were conscious that your sins have deeply offended God, and sincerely resolve not to commit them again, then you’re good to go.

Feelings are not within our control. Feelings are neither good nor bad; they just are. We control our will, which results in how we respond to our feelings. Therefore the Church asks us to commit our will to repent and sin no more. She doesn’t ask us to do the impossible; manage our feelings.

But you must have felt that you were wrong or you wouldnt have confessed right? So thats a start, think about it? So work more on not doing it again then not being sorry, it will get you further. Alot of ours sins we really arent (per say) sorry for, thats why they are harder to break, they are usually something we get something out of. But remember like all sins they are something that the devil tempts us with that we enjoy and then in the end destroys us with. Like I love to gamble then when i loose i am sorry, boy am i sorry, but when i win im not really sorry for it. kind of liked it. But its a sin when it gets out of control see what i mean. But as a rule in control or out i love that sin. Just hate what it can do to me. That is what sin (THE DEVIL) is all about. Give you the rope and then watch you hang yourself. Get it. Hope i helped.

Repent means to change your mind. You decided that what you did (or didn’t do) was wrong. You changed your mind about doing it again. You went to Confession with a resolve to avoid that sin to the best of your ability. Feelings aren’t what matter here–it is the recognition of the sin, the confession of it (which means that you agree with God that it is a sin), and then the repentance–to amend your life. You are okay, imho. 👍

The key to the sacrament is repentance. Even though our sins sometimes don’t grieve us as much as they should, as long as we “firmly resolve, with the help of His grace, to sin no more”, that is the true goal of this sacrament.
You’re good to go, God bless!
I also recommend all the Sorrowful Mysteries, they often bring me sorrow for offending God.

If you’re worrying about your confessions, you may have scruples. Nevertheless, your absolution is valid regardless of how you feel. You can forget about those sins and you need never repeat them again in another confession.
