There ya GO! I HAVE listened to that CD and I LOVED it! In no way did I have the impression that “sneezing crooked” is a ticket to Hell. Fact is, in our culture, we have lost a lot of our RATIONAL sense of sin – which is one of our divinely given human gifts. But it sounds like you have a double dose.

Balance, balance, balance. See if you can connect with people – both in person and on line – who are experienced with situations like yours. You don’t want this to become a life sentence.
LOL so I am doubly gifted then with the Rational sense of sin? I know that in the mornings on that CD that Father Richards said that if God isnt the first thing that you think of when you wake up that you have sinned already. Sorry but like most people I think of gotta get my coffee going and then go to the little girls powder room and get my teeth brushed. I need time in waking up with my coffee to lift the night time fog from the sleep. I really dont feel like God is that harsh that He would say that I have disobeyed the first Commandment. Maybe I over analyze things too much. My best friend and my cousin both tell me I am way too critical of myself.

I think what Fr. Richards means by his comment on not thinking of God when you wake up is that by GOD’s standards, ALL we can do is sin. But by GOD’s mercy, we live in love and in hope. He was slamming home the point – not for people like you but for the rest of us that left to ourselves, we are hopeless.

BTW, I know a priest who wakes up, says “Good morning, Lord.” Then goes and makes a cup of coffee. Sits down with it to pray his office from the breviary, and when the caffeine has kicked in, he says, “OK, Holy Spirit. I’m ready now. Let’s pray!”

I am so glad I met you. You have made me feel so good today. Thank you so much. I am going to try the priest approach to that. It is so cool. Thank you for befriending me. I hope you can continue to help and guide me.

Big cyber hugs and thanks for the kind words.

I have a special place in my heart for people whose consciences torment them. In this culture we are always told that feeling guilty is a bad thing, when in fact, the rational experience of guilt when we know we have offended God and our neighbor is a supremely human faculty and a divine gift.

But dwelling in the anxiety of guilt, against the rational faculty of an informed conscience, is the very work of the devil! Spit in his eye when you feel this coming.

May God send you a confessor who understands your scrupulosity and can help you build your strengths and free you from it!

I woke up this morning and felt as if you have lifted a burden off of my shoulder. I did say Good Morning God when I got up and it felt good to say that. Made me feel like I wasnt neglecting Him. I am still half way asleep at 10 PM even after getting up at 5:30 but I will say some prayers today. I am going to try to ease up on myself and not be so hard on me to be perfect and realize that the only perfect person in this world is Jesus and God of Course. I dont know what it is about you but I finally got some peace last night. I even mailed a Green Scapular this morning to someone who I have promised to and have been putting it off they are in England and need it badly for several health reasons. Thank you. God Bless you Mercygate. I really feel and know in my heart that you are an Angel sent to me from God above Himself. :hug3: :blessyou: ❤️ :crossrc:

Seems to me like the Holy Spirit is blowing in your direction.

I will remember you at Mass when we pray that the Lord will “free us from all anxiety.”

I went to confession last night and what Father told me made me so mad that afterwards I just left church and didnt attend Mass. I came home and was so angry that I blew up at God for everything. I am so sick of trying to live a life that I cant live. Seems like every cotton picking thing you do is a sin. While in confession I talked to him about my husbands not making love to me since September and told asked him what God would think is lesser punishment, Having an affair on my husband or masturbating and feeling better? Father told me neither and now I feel like I am so wound up like a spring that is ready to break in half. I even wonder what priest do in this situation because they are humans too and make mistakes? I know that they have to get sexually aroused. So what is the use of even trying to be good and doing the right thing when everything you do around you is a sin? I give up. I will go to Mass this morning but not to communion.

Gigglin’ – I think you know that what you post here requires hands-on management by a trained professional. This is way beyond the kind of friendly counsel based on personal experience and common knowledge that you will find among strangers on a web site.

You KNOW you can’t go to confession and expect a Catholic Priest to tell you that one sin is better than another.

Oh my Gosh! You have named me to a Tee in what you have said. I guess I am scrupulous like you said. I am always feeling like I am a bad person no matter what anyone says to me and that I am doomed for hell no matter what I do. I just feel so over whelmed that I dont know how to live without this " Being Perfect In Everything" Way. I feel like I am a wasted space on this great earth of God’s and no matter what anyone says or does to try to get me to see the good in me I see myself as worthless. If I let someone down then I feel like I have let God down as well and that I am automatically damned for Hell. Lord, Jesus Christ Have Mercy on me a sinner.
In addition to confession, memorizing scripture is always helpful in these cases. Find those verses that directly refute the negative thought, then, whenever it comes, say the verse out loud to yourself. Write the verses and put them around the house, in the car, etc. Send a text message to yourself! The Word of God is very effective in cleaning up the mind.

Pope Pius X–currently the last pope to be canonized as a saint went to confession daily.

It is possible to go to confession very often and it is also possible to be very earnest and very desirous of getting rid of mortal sin and venial sin without being scrupulous–that’s the way the saints were–the closer they were to God the farther away they felt they were.

There is certainly a line that can be crossed into scupulosity and scupulosity is a bad thing.

If a person is not scrupulous and if their priest doesn’t think they are scrupulous then frequent confession is a good thing.

Just always obey your confessor and tell him everything.

And remember–even though you may not go to confession to confess mortal or venial sins to a priest–you can always confess venial sins directly to God as you pray everyday.

The saints did that too!

On the one hand I agree that I also sometimes get the feeling that almost everything I do seems to be a sin but then again I find the answer to your question the only acceptable one.

This may sound strange, but this is a great situation for you to be in right now. You are being given a cross to bear, and nothing but God’s grace can enable you to bear it. This is how saints are made. Your experience is just that described in Romans chapter seven. No, the priest did not make a mistake. You are being asked by God if you are willing to lay your desires for pleasure on the altar in order to get your husband to heaven. Just as Paul stated in Corinthians, “I will never eat meat again” if one can be saved, God is asking you to give up your Isaac. Whatever is most cherished for you (intimacy with your husband) you lay it on the altar out of love for Him. When a person takes up a cross, one is a “dead man walking”. There is no rescue from one sentenced to death. One carries that cross, then lays one’s life upon it’s wood. You have been given a share in the suffering of Christ. It may not feel like a blessing, but it is.

Might I ask if you are a male or a female and if you are married?

Mercygate you are a Blessing :yup:
I agree too if anyone else does give me an :amen:
:amen: 🙂

By the way, I am a convert to the Catholic Church from atheism. I had a sudden conversion in 2003. Upon coming home from attending Mass the very first time, my (then) wife have moved all my belongings to the guest bedroom. Until she divorced me in 2006, we lived completely apart. I know what it is like to be denied for YEARS. It is not easy. It is not pleasant. But it helped me grow spiritually.

I received the declaration of nullity last month.
