Yes.

Absolutely. I have done this many times. In fact, I remember earlier this year, I was driving through Atlanta and got lost (coincidence? I think not) and passed by a large Catholic Church. I remembered I needed to go to Confession, so I just automatically turned into the parking lot and went inside. I eventually found the secretary and asked her if Father was available for Confession, and it turned out he was both there and available. So, I went to Confession. I’ve done many similar things when traveling. I’ve even gone to Confession in my car. I found a parish not in my home town when away one day, and went to a nearby parish to find a priest. I saw a priest walking on the road going towards the chapel, stopped, rolled my window down and asked him if he could hear my Confession. He leaned in, heard my Confession, gave me absolution, and I was off back to my business.

Could this be the first of many to come? Drive by Confessions?

The only thing that would be better would be phone confessions :).

(Yes, I know that will never happen, I’m just joking).

Of course you can. You’re going to have your sins forgiven by Christ, my friend. The priest is just the instrument of grace 🙂 Why do you think half the time the priest you’re confessing to isn’t really from your parish?

I can see it now… Drive through Confessionals with big neon signs saying, “Toot-n-Tell or Go to Hell!” LOL
