Let’s say I went into the confessional with what I thought were 2 mortal sins to confess:

The first sin is murder.

I am resolved never to commit murder again (or at least to try not to).

The second sin is eating way too much fried chicken.

I make my confession and receive absolution, but even during my confession, I know that this Saturday, my husband is going to make his fried chicken and that I will probably eat too much of it. Not only that, but I disagree with the Church teaching that it is a mortal sin anyway, so my resolve to avoid this sin may not be firm.

I later find out that eating too much fried chicken is not even a mortal sin and didn’t really need to be confessed in the first place.

Is my confession invalid simply because of the fact that I was not firmly resolved not to commit what I THOUGHT was a mortal sin?

There is of course a difference between knowing ones weakness…and that there is a good possibility that one could commit a certain mortal sin…sometime in the future…

–and not being amended.

That being said…

One must be resolved NOT TO COMMIT ANY MORTAL SIN and ALL mortal sins.

If one still had the intent to return to the sin…

or did not resolve to not commit mortal sins in the future…etc then there is a problem…(not just try…but resolve not to do so…as Yoda said to Luke …“there is no try there is only do or not do”") …))

So I would advise the person to return to confession …best prob to the same priest…for confession…and lay it all out…what happened etc.

and in any case…even if one is say…“scrupling over something”…and seeing something in an exaggerated way…one should still have the intent…the resolution to avoid ALL mortal sins (and the near occasions to them of course) in general…and of course any one confesses. That should be for EVERY CONFESSION. Then if say in the confession or later after the confession one discovers that such and such is not a sin or not a mortal sin…they can then act on the new info.

And of course as you would agree we need to not “disagree” with what the Church really teaches of course…but we can say “this may not be the Churches teaching…for it seems not right…But I am resolved to avoid all mortal sins…so if it is I am resolved to avoid it …but I think I may understand this not right…so I will hold myself open to correcting my conscience on this…and thus if it is not a sin I of course will allow myself perhaps to do such and such if that is the case”.

Convert to stanism… you can start off with shooting a man who is workin the register at a fried chicken place steal all the money and then have a huge orgy in his blood while eating fried chicken…
ALL HAIL SATAN

DAMN IT i spelled satan wrong ****in god and his language

we should all stick a real crispy peice of burnt fried chicked far um into gods rectum. the fist-bump satan laugh with him and goto kfc and get some tasty ****. but we forget our wallets so we shoot the guy in the face and see some fine hoes at a table and call em over. the we have insane intercourse on the dead guys bloody body while eating friend chicken and laughing at how gay god is.

than afterward we sneak the hoes into are lair and sacrifice the fat one in the glorious name of satan and we all laugh and we have another orgy all up on that fat **** we all take a bite outta her heart and use her blood as lube for are crazy orgy god tries stopping it but we just tell him to **** off and he gets all scared and hides so then we find him and sacrifice god so that satan is the supreme ruler of the world and we enter a eternity of darkness in which all believers in god burn forever as the non believers party

what he said

Killing and over eating are different. Killing is serious, over eating is not considered serious sin.
You are to confess all mortal sin you can remember and resolve to not commit them again.
