I have the opportunity to go to confession tonight and I have a quick question about how grave a certain action may have been.

The issue is responsible underage drinking. I have just recently turned 21, the legal drinking age. But prior to that on several occasions I have taken part in what I would describe as responsible underage drinking. This meaning I have drank small amounts of alcohol, sometimes under the watch of my parents in the house ( which is actually legal), and other times with some buddies. But we always stayed inside and relaxed, playing video games or getting in the hot tub or something similar. On a couple occasions we may have had a bit too much to drink, but like I said we never went out where we could possibly cause any trouble.

I figure these instances to have at least some venial sins attached, but was wondering if they are more than that, because I have been to confession after having turned 21, but did not think to mention this issue. if they are venial I have been forgiven, but if they are mortal, I should bring them up tonight. I hadn’t considered these occasions since the last couple of days. If in doubt I will bring them up tonight just in case.

Thanks!

I would say bring up anything you believe may be a sin, and discuss with your confessor. He will guide you.

And it would be very interesting to know what the priest says. Would any sin be one of disobedience to the civil authorities, because I can’t see that drunkenness was involved, from the OP’s account? The age at which buying / drinking alcohol in a public place varies so much from country to country, but is there a law in the States about under-age drinking at home? I didn’t know that. Wouldn’t that impinge on persoanl liberty, and how could it be enforced.
