confession question

I am going to confess this tomorrow if I get to go to my parish’s weekly confession but I would like opinions as to whether or not I’ve sinned.
I went out last saturday to the club and talked to friends and drank soda as I don’t drink alcohol. I took a cab. If I could go out to take a cab on the vigil evening to go to the club did I miss my obligation because I didn’t go saturday and couldn’t go sunday? Yes I knew I wouldn’t be able to go sunday. I have transport difficulties so I don’t get to go to Mass as often as I’d like and if I do it’s during the week. Better than nothing.

As Catholics we have an obligation to attend Mass on Sunday. If you cannot attend due to circumstances beyond your control then you are excused. You have to fill in the blanks here. If you are going to confession then just mention this and let the priest counsel you God bless you…teachccd 🙂

It doesn’t meet your obligation, though. Weekday Mass is great, I agree. But you went to a club when you knew that you couldn’t attend Sunday Mass, so yeah, I’d think that you did neglect your obligation on that score. Put God before going out to meet friends.

Given that you couldn’t go on Sunday and knew this, then you would be, so far as I understand it, obligated to go on Saturday. Not doing so in order to go out with friends would be grave matter, I think. Whether it was a sin depends on whether you were aware of this at the time (and of course on full consent of will, but I’m guessing you weren’t forced).

If you didn’t think it was sinful, or if you were unsure, then it may not have been a mortal sin, but it’s worth mentioning to your priest in any case. (In addition to absolving you of it if it was a sin in your case, he can give you counsel on such situations.)
 
I would recommend that questions like this be posed only to your confessor. Asking opinions publicly, and of anonymous people, is not at all helpful to one’s spiritual journey.
