This might appear to be a stupid question to some (based on a couple of replies I have received in the past) but I need to ask anyway.

Is there anything wrong with going to confession at another Church outside of my Parish, like close to where I work as opposed to my regular Church/Priest?

This is really for selfish reasons, meaning it might be a little easier for me to ease into my first confession in a LONG time somewhat anonymously. Or is that kind of defeating the purpose?

Thoughts?

Nothing wrong at all. It may put you more at ease too.

Best wishes,

You can go anywhere you want my friend. The most important thing here is going to confession, not where you go. Many people choose not to use their own priest. I have gone town down to our cathedral for confession. I liked it.

Welcome back btw :)👍

Can. 991 Every member of the Christian faithful is free to confess sins to a legitimately approved confessor of his or her choice, even to one of another rite.
It’s completely your choice. Go where it is convenient and you feel most comfortable.

I’ve been going to a priest for confession, in another parish for years now. It started off being that my wife and myself have adoration chapel at this particular parish, the same time that my home parish has confessions. The confessions at this parish start 1/2 hour before our adoration schedule, so it fit right in to go to confession there. However, the priest is a good confessor and I would probably go to him for confession, even if the adoration chapel closed.

Nothing wrong in going to confession outside of your parish.

😃 Hi there!
I have been reading “My Beloved” by Mother Catherine Thomas and in it, she quoted from “The Dark Night” by St. John of the Cross: “They are too embarrassed to confess their sins openly, lest their confessors should think less of them…And sometimes they seek another confessor to tell the wrongs that they have done, so that their confessor shall think they have done nothing wrong at all.” (pg 8) The thing is, I read this part right after I did something like that, so I felt a little bad. 😦 But the confessor was really nice about it and the church I went to was very nice and gave me a great sense of peace, so I liked it a lot. So, I don’t think God is displeased since I did muster up the courage to confess my sins (that alone was hard enough!) I would say it’s just using a different phone booth to call Jesus! 😃

So as long as you “call” Jesus, He’ll be happy.
