Is it any coincidence that the decline in the great number of people attending Confession correlates with the rise of abject immorality in our country? For the last forty to fifty years, society has been on a living descent into hell & at the same time, less & less people are attending Confession.

Do you think it is too late for society? When are people going to wake up and realize what they are doing is not working?

Probably not. I think St. Padre Pio said something like “there are no coincidences.”

Is it too late? No, I don’t think so. But, I think we do need Russia to be definitively, clearly, and obviously consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Look to what happened with France, and the consecration to the Sacred Heart.

Considering less than a quarter of the population of the US is Catholic, and even less in the whole world, I do not see the correlation. Society as a whole, yes, is in a moral descent, but I don’t see how getting more Catholics to go to confession will help society. Before people head to the confessional they have to realise they are committing sin. So something needs to come before to help people understand that the path they are on is leading to moral decay and loss of salvation.

Europe has been in moral decline since what the 1100’s? How many reform move have there been in the Catholic church attacking the moral decay there? While I look around and think of society in decline I also know the British have attacked their economic malaise since the 1740’s.

Some of its real. some of its a tendency of people to see decline. People have been in moral deline since Adam. Adding more confession times will not change that only Christ can and ultimately His second coming. In what era I wonder was the highest rate of confessions ever - 1950’s? Was that the most moral time frame?

Modern society is decaying because people are listening to popular culture to much. the media has more influence on our culture than the church. now i am not saying the church should move in and dominate all culture. i am saying that the media is guided by greed the church is Guided by God, obviously the media is going to have a worse effect on our culture.

Confession helps people to forget about there sins because they no longer have to worry about them. but in modern society you can just forget about them and move on you don’t have to go through all the trouble of telling someone your sins when you can just suppress them and forget, these lies are ripping apart our society. If people forget how to forgive then how long will the human race last?

Confessing one’s sins to another person has become an objectionable idea. I must admit
I don’t go to Confession myself. To me, it qualifies as ‘TMI’, to use a popular colloquialism. Frequently, I do feel the need to go, however. In fact, I’d like to go, but can’t bring myself to do so. Nevertheless, I don’t consider the decline of Confession as the root of the West’s current cultural disintegration. It’s something much bigger than that.

I really do not understand what this post is saying, but I don’t recall anyone here saying that the decline of confession was “the root” of the West’s decline. It was asked if there is any connection between the two.
