Confession two days in a row?

If a person commits a mortal sin as they walk out of the church building after Confession, they should turn around and go back in!

I did exactly that. I went on a Saturday morning and really messed up just a few hours later and went back Saturday afternoon. It’s not being scupulous, it is just recognizing your sin. Had I committed that same sin the next day, I probably would have waited for the following week but why wait if it is available?

I was told the opposite by a priest. The Sacrament of Reconciliation has over-flowing graces. All the Sacraments, after all, are about God’s power, not about us. Our time in the confessional is God’s time, not ours.

My priest told me of a colleague who had been hearing first confessions, one boy got out of the confessional and another boy called him a name, he hit out at the other boy and their teacher told him to get back into the confessional, but the priest hearing confessions sent him back out. The boy’s contrition from his first confession was still enough, he didn’t need a second in as many minutes!

If we forget a sin, it doesn’t invalidate confession. Just mention it next time.

But, if you go away and commit a mortal sin the same day, certainly get back to confession as soon as possible.

Be careful the constant availability of daily confession doesn’t turn into an occasion for the sin of presumption though, assuming that you can always sin and go back to confession next day.

I agree with everybody who said if you commit a mortal sin, yes go back before going to Holy Communion, and I agree with those who said to follow the advise of their confessor if they are having problems with being scruplous. I also agree with what Br. Rich said about if you truly forgot something to just confess it next time because if you truly forgot and you already received absolution for your sins that you did commit, that sin was also included in that absolution, but since you forgot it, you still need to confess it. (I think that is why some may get scruplous because they keep remembering things that they truly did forget, not because they were trying to hide them.) I guess thats why we get confused sometimes by what some say to one and what others say to someone else. (It applies only to the one that it is being said to, not everyone else’s situation necessarily.)
