Confession type question

I know that if someone commits a mortal sin and they are really sorry and ask God to forgive them that God does forgive them. And that the person does need to go to confession. My questions are…

1. If the person plans on going to confession the next time that the Parish has Confession is it ok for the person to live life (like going to the store jokeing with friends ect)

2)Is it ok for the person to do something like give up breakfast one morning as a way to let God know that they are really sorry for what they did?

Well, it certainly doesn’t take the place of a good confession, but I think Our Lord would be please by your outward acts of contrition.

Self-imposed penances are always good when offered up for the Church, and the individual soul. But nothing takes the place of Confession.

If this sin is so great (or too great to bear), call the parish and make an appointment with a priest before the regularly scheduled time for confessions.

I would recommend you ask AAA, specifically Fr. Serpa.

Oh I dont mean it in place of confession I mean is it ok to do a penance like that to get you by till confession

Wow, Catholicracer, you got a quick response! And (I shouldn’t be proud of this) I am so humbled that I wasn’t so far off from his advice.

. If one has committed a mortal sin, run to the nearest priest. You don’t want to risk dieing in that state. If one is in the state of mortal sin, nothing will help him until that sin is forgiven and he is in the state of grace again. Don’t wait until the next scheduled time for Confession, seek out a priest. - Fr. Serpa

Why are you scared to leave the house?

Are any of your neighbors Catholic who woul dbe able to take you?

Your parish might have a ministry of volunteer drivers, if a bus isn’t along your route. Call the rectory, they’re there to help. The office admin will contact one of the volunteer drivers to pick you up. The office admin (it’s been known to happen) may volunteer, herself.

Perhaps he or she can set up an appointment to have Father come out for a home visit, but Holy Week is a busy time. If you press the urgency you feel, it may work.

Or, if you are elderly or infirm, call your local Community Services and see if they have a van pick-up you can schedule around an appointment time.

Last resort? Make an appointment through the Rectory admin and call a taxi service (expensive, I know).

Finally, PM me and if you’re in my area, I will let you call ahead to the rectory to make an appointment and take you there myself. Gladly.

Why are you scared to leave the house?

I am just parinioed that if I leave the house before I go to confession on Saturday that I would get in a car crash or something then i could not go to heaven. My Mom tells my that I am worring to much.

Yea, that is a bit scrupulous.

Father Serpa said, “The Church teaches that one may attempt an act of perfect contrition when unable to go to Confession only in danger of death.”

So if you’re on your way to confession and you’re in danger of death from a car accident (HIGHLY UNLIKELY, MIND YOU), and you’re perfectly contrite, there’s hope.

I would get my butt to confession since this is so worriesome…or call and see if the Parish can arrange a house call.
