As a candidate will I be required to go to confession before or after first communion in March? Am I to confess all things since birth?

Don’t stress over it Julie. I was 28 when I converted. The priest and I talked for about 1/2 hour and everyting was alright.

Welcome to the family.

As a Candidate you will be given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It is up to you to take advantage of the opportunity. Remembering that one should not seek to receive any other Sacrament if they are aware of having committed serious sin.

Juliegh,
Sometimes people absolutely DREAD this part of becoming Catholic but if you ask me, it can be the best day of your life. Do not deprive yourself of careful and prayerful preparation (which you may not receive in your RCIA section).

I will never forget that day. I had prepared for six months (not doing the examen for six months), praying with scriptures related to God’s mercy, praying to have the memory and integrity to make this confession without reserving anything, without justifying anything. General confession was, for me, the psychological point of no return in my journey – the place where one becomes irrevocably Catholic. When I entered that room, I was a Protestant; two hours later, when I walked out, I was Catholic.

Godspeed.

I regret that I did not go to confession before being confirmed in the Church thru RCIA. I have since discovered the bountiful graces that come from the sacrament of confession.

Some will say that you should go to receive forgiveness for your sins. Yes that is true, but I we shouldn’t leave it there. The best part is the grace that comes afterward. Since you have been forgiven, it is much easier to forgive others. I urge you to go to experience that grace.
