confession

Hi,

I am new to the website and I also have a renewed faith in the catholic church and my relationship with God. It has been 20yrs since my last confession and am looking for advice on how to get started. I feel I have been a good person with not any real sins (hopefully) but I don’t even know what to start with. Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome home to the Church and welcome to CAF!

You should begin by finding a copy of a good, thorough examination of conscience. Study and pray over it for a while, and then contact a priest at your home parish (if you have one–or register first) and make an appointment to see him for confession.

Tell the priest your background and let him know that you have not been to confession in twenty years. He’s going to be willing to help you through your confession and can also assist you by asking you questions if you need help.

Spend some time in prayer, ask God to show you how you could be closer to him…Reflect on the 10 Commandments, reflect on your relationships with friends and family and your time at work or school. Spending time quietly in Eucharistic Adoration is great for this. Then call a parish or -even better-ask a priest who seems approachable, merciful after he has said Mass, to set an appointment for your Confession. Do not fear.
As for the actual Confession, there are guidelines on-line. But it is natural to need some assistance, and the priest will guide you through. Welcome back to the sacrament!!!

And finally here is a good examination of conscience. Look around on Google there are more out there that may go more in depth, but the key is to truely talk with Christ and to be sorry for our sins and having hurt Him by not keeping His commands.
