Tantum ergo and JCPhoenix,

If I am on the membership roll of the local Catholic Church and attend Mass every weekend then I am legally Catholic. I am never going to switch membership to the Protestant Church because I would not feel comfortable attending a church that does not have a liturgical worship service and I like to go to Saturday Vigil Mass so that I can do other things on Sunday like going out to lunch and shopping. The Protestant Churches do not have Saturday Vigil services.

Albert

Your beliefs of the Catholic Church are so confusing…if your attending Mass every week and receiving the Eucharist in an unholy manner (unfaithful to the teachings of the Church) then your receiving the body of Christ in the state of sin.

I’ll pray that you “really come home to the Chruch and all she teaches!”

Albert, why do you think that you know better than the Church? She has 2000 years of wisdom. Do you really think all the saints and martyrs of the past were fools while you have the Truth? Pray about this, and don’t let pride get in the way. Pride can be a huge stumbling block for all of us. God bless.

You guys say that I have some Protestant beliefs. Well there is a Priest from Saint Francis Association For Catholic Evangelism named Father John Bertolucci that I have several cassette tapes of messages in which Bertolucci stated that early on in his priesthood he received Jesus as personal savior and that Bertolucci conducts evangelistic meetings in which he has Catholics receive Jesus as personal savior and the Priest of the local Catholic Church that I am a member of preaches quite often about the need to receive Jesus as personal savior.

Ah, the convenience factor. You want to be a member of the church whose schedule fits your convenience. Never mind that you don’t hold to its beliefs or obey its precepts. . .just gotta have that “free” Sunday. . .

God help you.

I have read the Bible and still haven’t found where you should recieve Jesus as your personal Lord and saviour.

What I have found is that you should confess Jesus with your mouth, and believe in your heart, you will be saved.

This is something every faithful Catholic does every Sunday when we profess our faith. Every Sunday Catholics profess their faith, and not only state what they believe, but partake in the Eucharist as Jesus commanded us to do.

Tantum ergo,

Everybody that goes to Saturday Vigil Mass is there because they want to do other things on Sunday. And I hold to the Catholic beliefs of making the Sign of the Cross, belief that Saint Peter was the first Pope, belief in Infant Baptism and the belief that there are 7 Sacraments.

You don’t believe in the 7 Sacraments though. You don’t believe in confession or the Real Presence in the Eucharist. Those are two of them.

scylla,

Well tell that to that Priest from Saint Francis Association For Catholic Evangelism named Father John Bertolulcci. Bertolucci stated in messages on cassette tapes that early on in his priesthood he received Jesus as personal savior and that Bertolucci conducts evangelistic meetings in which he has Catholics receive Jesus as personal savior. One priest is one priest. . .not the Magesterium.
One parish is one parish. . .not the Magesterium.

One pedophile priest is one pedophile priest. . .not the Magesterium.
By your logic, the fact that a pedophile priest existed means that pedophile priests are acceptable. After all, he might believe in your “Catholic” beliefs too. . .

You must be the same troll that infested EWTN’s q-and-a boards some months ago, shamelessly taking advantage of the good will of the priests there.

Take your garbage somewhere else.

General Absolution is only to be given when people are in critical need of absolution. Example: If your on a plane and it’s going down the preist can stand up and give general absoltuion.

To accept the Eucharist is to be in full communion with the Catholic Church, not some of what it teaches. There is one truth, not a buffet of what works for us as individuals.

I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Lord and Savior when I was 8 years old. That didn’t make me a Catholic. Nor, technically, did it make me a Christian, since I had been baptized as an infant. What it DID was draw me into a more defined relationship with Christ. So it IS important to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior. But it isn’t a guarantee of anything and it isn’t necessarily a one-shot-recite-this-formula event. We accept (or reject) Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior with every decision of our lives.

When a Catholic, in a state of grace, comes forward to receive the Blessed Sacrament, he is absolutely “receiving Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.”

Father Bertolucci seems to be a popular Catholic Charismatic priest. The CCR teaching of receiving Jesus as personal savior is diferent that what you are describing. CCR does not deny transubstantiantion, the need for individual confession or the efficacy of infant baptism. So while you may have latched on to that one point, this does not seem to be where your belief system stems from.

A quick google search on Father Bertolucci shows him to be a priest in the Albany NY diocese. I do not think he is currenlty in active ministry due to some legal issues he was named in.

So Albert,

Why are you here and how can we help you?

Are you hoping to find like-minded “Catholics” here? Are you looking for validation of your statements? This is probably not a good fit. These forums tend to be populated with pretty orthodox, observant Catholics.

Are you uncertain as to how your beliefs fit into those of the Church? They don’t.

Are you looking for a way back into full communion with the Church? If so, you have come to the right place and have received many good suggestions here.

I hope you find the answers you are looking for. I have to join the voices begging you not to receive our Lord in Holy Communion until you yourself regain communion with His Church. To do so is gravely wrong. But you already knew that. 🙂

I agree! This guy cannot be taken seriously. He is either writing this nonsense to get a few kicks, or he is trying to place a seed of doubt in the minds of others.

Get a life Albert.

You can’t possibly be serious? You are either very confused and self-centered or are looking for a few laughs.

Genesis315,

I do believe in the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist and in the Sacrament of Penance. But I believe in the Sacrament of Penance in the form of general absolution, not in the form of individual confession. There are a lot of Catholics who only go to Communal Reconciliation Service and not individual confession. Who do you guys think you are to state that because I and thousands of other Catholics who do not go to individual confession are not Catholics when we attend Mass ever weekend?

Albert, There’s more to your problems than your own personal beliefs in confession and your version of the Holy Eucharist. Maybe you need to attend an RCIA class. I hope your find the truth.

PEACE.

No one is saying that you aren’t a Catholic. We do not know anything about the state of mind of those other people you refer to. We DO know something about your state of mind. You admit to knowing the Church’s teaching about individual confession and rejecting it. Some people might be under the misunderstanding that Communal Reconciliation Services are valid even when no emergency exists. You are not under that misunderstanding.

By rejecting so much of what the Church teaches, you have put yourself out of full communion with the Church. Going to Mass every Sunday (or Saturday) does not make one Catholic. Eating Fish on Friday does not make one Catholic. You became Catholic with your Baptism and that is indelible. Your ability to adhere to Church teaching regarding matters of Faith and Discipline determine whether you are a Catholic in full communion with the Church. No one is judging your actions. You have made affirmations that you are not in full communion with the Church. You said yourself that you do not believe what the Church teaches. That puts you outside of full communion with the Church.

Again, I ask you, what are you looking for here? How do you want us to help?
