Lets say I go to confession this week, but I forget some of the things or misrepresented the word a sin I did was called… is that OK?

I think if you forget some stuff it’s okay, but you have to confess those next time you confess. I’m not certain though, so check with the catechism. By misrepresenting a word, do you mean intentionally?

Unintentionally forgetting a sin is not a sin and those sins that you have FORGOTTEN will also be forgiven. However, if you should remember these sins later, they should be confessed. I’m not exactly sure about the second part of your question. I had difficulty in understanding what you were asking. However, if you are asking if it is okay to misrepresent (IE - lie) something while in confession, the answer to that is an obvious NO. To intentionally “misrepresent” part or parts of you confession is sinful. God bless.

No of course not intentionally! Just if like I wasn’t sure what my sin would be called, and I said something else… hard to explain. A lot of people think that they have to categorize their sins in confession, and this leads to the kind of confusion you have. Let go of that “requirement,” and simply tell the priest what you did.No of course not intentionally! Just if like I wasn’t sure what my sin would be called, and I said something else… hard to explain. But, hope you know what i mean

That sounds innocent enough, right?
But suppose the lie was in court, causing a family to be found negligent and liable, causing the family to lose their home.
Not so innocent, right?

Like everyone has said - if you forget sins there is nothing you can do at that moment. Misrepresenting the word for a particular sin is wrong. First, it is confusing for the priest to figure out what the penitent did. Second, it shows that a person is not ready to face up to what they did by trying to possibly identifying it by another name. When we confess our sins it is to the Lord that we confess through the priest; Christ knows exactly what we did and how often we did it so there is no reason for us to hide behind a change of words when saying whatever it was we did.
Point is, we need to have true contrition when we go to that sacrament and confess as completely and clearly as possible.
