So, I went to confession not that long ago (two weeks, maybe), and I just committed a mortal sin (impurity). Of course I know that I need to go to confession for it asap (as in, later today), but I don’t have a lot of other things to confess really. I don’t mean to say this in a self-righteous way, but I feel almost like I’m looking through an examination of conscience trying to find things just so I’ll have more to say… is it ok to only confess maybe two or three things? The priest I’ll probably be going to is my SD and I’m so ashamed I’ve screwed up again… thanks, any quick reply would be appreciated as I’ll have to leave in less than an hour to get to confession.

Yes, it is fine to confess only two or three things. Not everyone of your confessions needs to have a hundred things and take 30 minutes. Perhaps keeping at it and rooting out one major sin will help you to avoid any other areas of sin and temptation in your life.

I should have added “Yes, as long as that is all you are aware of”. It is a mortal sin to omit any mortal sins which we are aware of while giving a confession, and thereby renders the confession invalid.
I would hate to have given the impression in my original post that we can pick and choose which mortal sins we will confess.

Yes, that’s fine to only confess two or three things. It’s not about the number of sins you confess, but about the way you enter into the sacrament.

It is fine to confess only one thing, if that is the only sin you need to confess. No one needs to have a list of sins to confess, unless they actually committed them!

I’ve been to confession a couple of times when I had only one thing to confess. The joy when I received absolution and that awful thing was gone! Don’t be afraid to hurry to confession and unload that sin that is haunting you. Get rid of it. Don’t wait.
