Would an Eastern Catholic priest hear the confession of a reverting Latin-rite Catholic? Would he have to know that? Is confession process the same?
Yes.Would an Eastern Catholic priest hear the confession of a reverting Latin-rite Catholic? Would he have to know that? Is confession process the same?
Yes, and he does need to know the Catholic church you are ascribed to, because some reserved sins exist for the eastern Catholics. It is a little different but mainly in the prayer of absolution. Sometimes the location is not in a confessional.Would an Eastern Catholic priest hear the confession of a reverting Latin-rite Catholic? Would he have to know that? Is confession process the same?
I was trying to revert to my cradle Roman Catholicism. My husband is a former protestant that wants to be Catholic. We were at an Eastern Orthodox for over a year, but they would have had me denying the Pope and Rome to join and I couldn’t do that. So to compromise, I am considering an Eastern Catholic church. We are both familiar with the liturgy and customs. However, since we were never able to commune or go to confession, those are two aspects we are unfamiliar with.Yes.
Yes, you should tell him.
Not necessarily: before I started to learn the EC way, my EC pastor allowed me to confess in the RC way.
Would you mind sharing what you are reverting to and from?
I’ll send some helpful links in a moment.
Thank you for sharing; you didn’t have to and I really really appreciate it. i have often considered y the Eastern Orthodox Church, but denying the pope has become my sticky wicket.I was trying to revert to my cradle Roman Catholicism. My wife and I were Orthodox for about 5 years. It ended in disaster. The papacy was always something of an issue, but I’ve taken the “disaster” as the Holy Spirit sending us a pretty clear message. I’m slow and dense, so messages from Him need to be pretty “in my face”i have often considered y the Eastern Orthodox Church, but denying the pope has become my sticky wicket.
This! God knows our intention and our heart. The “formula” is for us, not Him.You may or may not want to learn an EC formula for confession… I learned it doesn’t matter as much to my EC Priest because the intention to repent is pure.
