Hi all! So I just went to Confession, however when I was saying my Act of Contrition, I remembered a mortal sin that I forgot to confess. Instead of stopping and confessing it, I just resolved to confess the sin next time I go to Confession (I go regularly). Should I go again to Confession today because I didn’t confess it (which I had no intention of omitting), or should I just bring it up next Confession? Thanks all! God Bless!!

Your sins have been forgiven if you did not purposefully withhold a sin for any reason.

Mention the mortal sin in your next confession.

Making a good examination of conscience helps to remember one’s sins.

I went last week after about 50 years. I worried about forgotten sins. My confessor said as long as I was truly sorry for all, they were forgiven. I fully accept that and do not feel I need to confess again, though if I remembered something that really weighed on my soul, I would do so. May God Bless you.

Wonderful! Yes if one is was contrite etc - a forgotten mortal sin is absolved with the rest! The Blood of Christ washed all away. (Memory does not serve well after a time - and God knows that). Thanks be to God. Welcome home! Indeed there is true life in Christ ! Wonderful news indeed.

It should though be added that if one remembers a mortal sin that was forgotten then one is obliged to confess it in the next confession. Which is easy to do thankfully - just mention it in the next confession that it was forgotten.

Was listening to Catholic answers the other day, and they had a priest answering questions. And confession came up - and he essentially said confession in the sacrament is more about us having peace and self assurance…of having guilt removed. And that of course if you just pray to God you can be forgiven - but how the sacrament completes it all and it’s for our benefit.

So i think we can be over scrupulous at times. Losing our salvation isn’t like losing our car keys. God is mercy and love…so just give a good effort and it will all turn out well.

Indeed, we can be over-scrupulous at times. But we must confess those mortal sins we are sure of having committed. We can be sure that this is for our well-being – since it is a directive that comes from the Church, and therefore from the Heart of the Lord Jesus.
