Many times I have gone to confession and forgotten to say a sin that I wanted to confess. Is it still forgiven even if I have not said it out loud in the confessional?

Im fairly certain that the absolution given is applied to ALL sins, even those you forgot to confess by a simple oversight. You are however, to return to confession to confess any sins that you remember. Basically, if you just forgot, then yes the absolution is still valid. If you remember after the fact, then you are under obligation to confess those sins as soon as is reasonable, which means that, yes, you should go back to confession. The only time you would really run into trouble is if you were to withhold confessing a sin that you were consciously aware of…in the case of withholding the confession of a sin you were consciously aware of, then the absolution is completely invalid.

Think of it this way. God, whos love, mercy, and wisdom, is so perfect it is beyond our human comprehension, is fully aware that we are only human, and subject to human imperfections (such as a bad memory). God is not going to punish us for merely being human.

I don’t think you are still under obligaton to confess the sins you forgot evne if you rmemeber them after since those sins are stil forgiven. So why confess a sin you are no longer liable for? Now if you willingly withold information then yes you probably are still liable for that sin.

Oh, what I wonder is how specific you have to be. Do you have to be really specific and say the exact sin an example being a specific type of sexual sin, or can you just say impure thoughts or something like that which is vage and broad but still categorizes it?

This is the purpose of a general confession. To confess every sin sin your last general confession

If you INTENTIONALLY do not confess a mortal sin, NONE of your sins are forgiven. If done so UNintenttionally, all of your sins are forgiven INCLUDING the ones that you forgot to confess. However, if you remember them at a later date, you are indeed REQUIRED to confess them.

but why? If you are forgiven why admit to something you are no longer liable for. Or should you say I for got to say this lasty confession but have not done this sin since that time…

Because God does not hold against you those things that you do not remember, but those things that you do recall, need to be confessed in order to have the slate wiped clean.
