Thank you!!Keep asking questions, it is a good covnversation to be had.

Does it not? Is not God using the priest? Maybe even the priest who has fallen to sin? Is God, through the sacrament of confession, not using the priest for the grandest purpose of allâŚthe forgivness of sin that would otherwise keep one of his sheep from rejoining the flock?I agree that sometime God uses evil people to do certain things, however that has nothing to do with confession.
Edam -No I wouldnât and you canât compare the two. Because you believe that such a person was appointed by God, while I believe that anyone who practices suicide bombers is a major sinner and is far from the teachings of God.
Just because you donât believe in something doesnât mean you canât understand it. I am sure you donât believe in our concept of God, but can you understand the concept of Him being One, without any partner, son, mother, wife, helper etc?
The whole point is to reconcile with God. You see, sin in any form is offensive to God. So, if we take responsablility for our actions and confess them, God forgives us. Christ says that the authority to forgive sins was given to Him by His Father. He then passed on that ability to His apostles, and through them to the rest of His church. It is all about reconciling with God. In the church, this sacrament is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
So Jesus appointed these evil priests that some may confess to? I would understand if priests were angels, but they are not, some may be theives and maybe 100times worse than the average Christian.
All humans are fallable. It is the Holy Spirit that is not fallable. Once a man is ordained a priest, the Holy Spirit is at work within him, even if he has become a murderer. It is the Holy Spirit that affects forgiveness.
So why not go directly to the Holy spirit? Also if the Holy spirit is at work with him, why doesnât it prevent him from molestation, murder and stealing?
Only God knows who is condemned. But it stands to reason, if you have sinned and have not reconciled with Him, what do you suppose He will do?
This is a good point, only God knows who is condemned, so the person you might be confessing to might be condemned and he may not be, so why confess to someone who may be condemned? Also we are assuming that this person sincerely repented, then God would accept them, what if they didnât repent, why should someone who did sincerely repent confess to someone who didnât?
I hope that you gain an understanding of confession and itâs reason. It brings us into Godâs grace and was instituted by Christ in order to do just that.
I am sorry, I still donât understand this concept. Though I do appreciate your effort, thank you very much, but it still makes no sense to me. Perhaps the protestants have the right interpretation on this one?
If you were taking a trip to destination A, would you pick someone who isnât a good driver, is known for drinking while driving, has sleep disorders etc to lead you? Or would you pick the best person you know? Also this isnât about using evil people to do certain things. It is about using certain people who may be evil to get to God. Why is it do hard to go directly to God? I am off for tonight, good night. I pray that God guides us to the truth, as one of us must be right.Does it not? Is not God using the priest? Maybe even the priest who has fallen to sin? Is God, through the sacrament of confession, not using the priest for the grandest purpose of allâŚthe forgivness of sin that would otherwise keep one of his sheep from rejoining the flock?
The priest is tending the flock. Jesus told Peter to do this, and it is through the apastolic succession that this it is possible for the priest to forgive sins and tend the flock of Jesus.
All priests are sinners in one way or another. So why confess to any of them when they may make the same exact mistakes as you? Why not go straight to God?Edam -
You have redirected your original question. You wanted to know about Confession. I have directed you to Scripture that shows you that Jesus instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation in order to reconcile with God. I have also shown you scripture that points out how important it is and scripture that shows how men are performing the ministry of reconciliation.
The topic of criminal priests is another issue.
You are under no obligation to bring your confession to any priest that you do not trust. There are priests that I prefer over others, and therefore I go to specific ones for confession. Just know that once a man is ordained, the Holy Spirit does not leave him and remains at work until the man passes into the afterlife. Even in prison, the convicted priest who have been disrobed can and do deliver the sacraments. I am sure that people in prison are in great need of God, wouldnât you agree?
So, if you prefer to not bring your child to a priest you distrust, go to another. It is that simple.

ThanksOh, and I do not object to your questions at all, so keep asking them. This is one of my favorite subjects.
Priests go to confession. Did you know that Pope John Paul II went to confession once per week? All priests are sinners in one way or another. So why confess to any of them when they may make the same exact mistakes as you? Why not go straight to God?
dear SubrosaPriest go to confession. Did you know that Pope John Paul II went to confession once oer week?
Please, Edam, you must try to understand this in proper context. Jesus instituted this practice in order to reconcile with God.
If I try going directly to the Holy Spirit, in church for instance, I can confess till the cows come home and not know if I have been forgiven. I go to a priest and he tells me my sins are absolved, and I know without question that they are.
If you read the scripture I posted, you will see that God wants us to take responsability for our actions and confess our sins. He rejoices in this confession. Here. Iâll post it againâŚ
nccbuscc.org/nab/bible/luke/luke15.htm Read Vss. 11- 32. Pay special attention to verse 21. It is the essence of confession. Read what happens after the confession. God, represented by the confessorâs father, has a celebration!
Please, try to treat this with greater understanding. I am not asking you to convert to the practice, but keep in mind that the Sacrament of Reconciliation has bee a part of Christianity since the beginning. It exists throughout the middle east in all of the Apostolic churches, not just the Roman Catholic church. This is a dayly event throughout the world.
Blessings,
Subrosa
Even if you have a process for repentance how do you know youâve done it correctly both in form and in spirit? Surely if you havenât you wouldnât be forgiven.dear Subrosa
The reason why Muslims have a hard time understanding the concept of Confession is because we believe that only God is capable of forgiving sins. All humans are on the same playing field, and the best amongst us are the ones who are greater in piety. The most pious person can be that beggar that searches the trash for food, not neccesarily a priest or an imam.
The other thing is that we believe we have an open and direct connection with God. He asks us to pray to Him, to call on HimâŚand He will answer those prayers. Also, read my signature, its a verse in the Quran where God says that through repentence (basically this 3 step process, if your interested we can get into it later), God promises to forgive us our sins, and never does God break His promises.
But i realize that the way we see our relationship with God is different. And i do understand your point of view.
Today at work one of the nurses had on white uniform slacks and a black top. She had dirt on both her buttocks and someone told her about it. I had to perk in and say âWhose been spanking Patti!?â Everyone laughed and then said âyou call yourself a Catholic?â I did not mean anything really bad, I guess I was trying to make light of the situation and made it worse (I do that alot). I am bothered by it and I will appologize to Patti if she ever talks to me again. I am imbarrassed about it, but on the other hand, I do not know if it was a sin or not. I do not expect anyone to tell me if it was or not, I know that I will confess it and only after I have appoligized to the one I might have imbarrassed. If I hurt you, I ask you to forgive me directly, I donât ask someone else for your forgiveness as they donât have that power.
Confess it to who? What does the priest have to do with it? Tell her your sorry and promise God you wonât do it again. Itâs very simple. God is all Merciful He accepts sincere repentance if one is sincere, no need to go to anyone other than Him.Today at work one of the nurses had on white uniform slacks and a black top. And that is the way you should handle it. I do not think personally that there is really any major sin there. However, you do need to make it right with her personally. Still, I would mention it the next time you are in confessional.Today at work one of the nurses had on white uniform slacks and a black top. God can forgive who He wants and He can punish who He wants. Would you agree with that?Even if you have a process for repentance how do you know youâve done it correctly both in form and in spirit? Surely if you havenât you wouldnât be forgiven.
Godâs forgiveness is like a diamond.,âŚbut one He gives directly to youâŚwithout a third party involved. The way it was explained to me is that itâs like Godâs forgiveness is like a diamond that you buy from a jeweller. It doesnât matter what sort of person the jeweller may be, that diamond is properly yours if he came by it honestly and if you pay a fair price for it.
Because we believe Christ to be God incarnate. And He Told us to.All priests are sinners in one way or another. So why confess to any of them when they may make the same exact mistakes as you? Why not go straight to God?
Simple as that! It is not my job to ask why. It is my job to follow his instructions. And, his instructions are very clearâŚthey tell all of us to go to confession.Because we believe Christ to be God incarnate. And He Told us to.
Just as you believe a prophet was sent by God and follow His teachings. Why? Because you believe God sent Him.
We believe Christ is God incarnate. Jesus gave the apostles the authority to forgive sins, in His name.
You keep asking why. The simple reason is because "God incarnate told me to."
That is a good answer for someone of the Catholic faith, but there must be some logic behind it right? If you want anything else from God do you go to Him or someone else? Letâs say you want to pray for God to bless you with a child, do you go to God through the priest or directly to God? If you can go directly to God sometimes, why not all the time? You keep asking why. The simple reason is because "God incarnate told me to."
The same reason that churches everywhere have a prayer list where we pray for the sick and the needy. If you had cancer, would you keep it to yourself and just talk to God, or would you ask others to pray for you. Let us remember that scripture tells us to confess our sins to each other. James Chapter 5That is a good answer for someone of the Catholic faith, but there must be some logic behind it right? If you want anything else from God do you go to Him or someone else? Letâs say you want to pray for God to bless you with a child, do you go to God through the priest or directly to God? If you can go directly to God sometimes, why not all the time?
