Confession

I went to confession tonight, and I just wanted to come on and say “Thank GOD!” we have this wonderful sacrament in the Catholic Church. And to encourage others who fear or reject this sacrament to go. It doesn’t hurt, the priest isn’t going to judge you or smack you over the head for bad sins. It’s a blessing to be able to get these things off your mind, soul, and heart, and ask God for forgiveness. And to those who insist they can confess directly to God: Sure you can. But why not get the WHOLE benefit from the sacrament and do it the right way?

In the words of JPII: Do not be afraid! God loves you, go to confession and take part in your church!

Shhhh… Don’t tell them all our secrets!!! Hahahaha!!! Isn’t it awesome! I think it is so funny that people think this is such a bad thing. If it is so bad how come you feel so good after doing the right thing???

While, of course, the Eucharist is our sacrament most holy, I have always thought that Reconciliation should have a song about it called “sacrament most comforting.”

To be honest there are no more endearing words to me than “your sins have been forgiven you. Go now and sin no more”

After my last confession, I left the Church and it was our first real warm day of spring and the sun was shining down on me. If my knees weren’t in such bad shape, I would have jumped and kicked my heels together.

Confession is what keeps me going on. I feel bad for Protestants who have no concept of what a wonderful, blessed Sacrament this is. It’s something that gives you hope in overcoming sins and even just plain old faults.

You know what? I used to join a Protestants Bible study. One member used to say something like “We are baptisized, we can do whatever we want…” Something like that… When the first time I brought up the concept of striving for holiness, with a Bible quote - I am holy so you should also be holy (I don’t have the Bible handy right now, so can’t give you the book, chapter and verse), the concept of working toward holiness appears to be very foreign to all of them.
One Protestant even quickly said “You have to realize we are saved by faith, there is no need to strive for anything.”

After I repeatedly bring up the need of working toward holiness, some of them started to agree. It seems to me their concept of “repentance” is to accept Jesus, to be saved, that is it. They don’t emphasize repentance after baptism. So, they would not think there is any need of confession at all.

I am talking about the group I have dealt with. There are many many different denominations, I am not trying to offend any Protestants out there. I am simply talking about my own experience.

I finally quit that group. Even during the time when I joined them, I could see my work of bridging over and the Catholic influnce I intentionally put in was working to a certain degree, I finally get to a frustration point and have to quit. I do have my own Catholic church small group. Thank God.
