It starts on February 6th this year. Most likely you will be presented to your Bishop on either the 9th or the 10th of February, and then you can start going to Confession as often as you want to go.

Don’t forget to genuflect on your left knee, and kiss his ring. 😉

(You will not receive any other Sacraments until after your Confirmation, which will be most likely at the Easter Vigil.)

The sponsor is there to help you through the process, help you form your questions, etc. You should value her advice, but you are not bound by it. She is there to help, not control.
You will choose a sponsor/godparent for your Confirmation. Candidates frequently choose the program sponsor for this, but you are free to pick someone else. Thsy must be a practicing Catholic who has been confirmed.

Again, any personal details of your confession are strictly between you and your confessor. Also you are free to choose any confessor you wish, though it sounds like you have a good one already.

I have met 3 different bishops, and nobody did that. I think they would probably be taken aback if somebody did that. I just shook hands with them.

My goodness! There is no panic here!! ANYBODY who is a practicing Catholic who has been confirmed and eligible to receive the Eucharist (no impediments such as an invalid marriage) and is over the age of 16 can be a sponsor! If they are telling you that you must have one from the parish in order to complete RCIA, they are mistaken.

As for your scores- don’t worry about them! You wil receive a certificate of profession of Faith and Confirmation, not a transcript! 84% is just fine.

The quizes are on the KofC website not part of the RCIA. They are part of my own rating of my understanding of the readings. With ADHD it helps to keep a check on that.

You bend down on to one knee (touch one knee to the floor), and then stand up again. That’s all there is to it. 🙂

For Jesus in the Tabernacle, you go down on your right knee; for priests and Bishops, you go down on your left knee.

Hello,
I understand that the doctrinal issues may be complicated. But everytime one goes to confession and receives absolution, then you are the same as when you were first baptised, and that should be what a sponsor would want for you, if you are new to the Catholic Church. Waiting for some penance that may take a reevaluation of the sin in your spiritual life is also something to consider.😃

Most bishops do not want their ring kissed these days. It used to be standard practice. I still see the Hispanics do it a lot.

I met the bishops at my confirmation (not Hispanic parish), graduation (Catholic college, no ethnic group), and my parish (not a nationality parish). I shook hands with the bishops on all occasions. Incidentally, the bishop whom I talked to at my parish was the same bishop who confirmed me. He remembered me, even though it was over 20 years ago. 🙂 I also met a bishop at the closing Mass of the parish I grew up in. The church was closed back in October of 2007.
 
It’s not common to kiss the ring of the Bishop in the United States. You might check the greeting line of people ahead of you as you wait to greet/meet the Bishop. Watch and see how others greet the Bishop. If you see that most kiss the ring and the Bishop is receptive, you might consider it. However, you are not obliged. It’s a DRY kiss of the ring, to reverence the office of Bishop, the sign of Christ in the (Arch)Diocese (where you live). I have never heard of giving a genuflection. Genuflections are reserved for adoration. Adoration is reserved for God alone. A genuflection is ordinarily a right knee to the ground, then standing in the upright position. To genuflect Latin genu flectere, geniculare (post-classic), to bend the knee. All genuflect when adoring the Blessed Sacrament unveiled, as at Expositions.
All genuflect when doing reverence to the Blessed Sacrament, enclosed in the Tabernacle, or lying upon the corporal during the Mass. The same honor is paid to a relic of the True Cross when exposed for public veneration.👍
 
The only people I have ever seen kiss the bishop’s ring around these parts are Polish nuns from a community they have established here. They genuflected too. I know several people who have met JPII in private audience and have their pictures with him and they were shaking his hand. I’ll have to ask if they kissed his ring but I know they did not genuflect to him.
 
Many years ago Cardinal Cushing came to dedicate our new church in Massachusetts. [It was just after he became Cardinal.] My wife was organist there at the time. She had rehearsed in her mind: genuflect on your left knee, kiss his ring, say Your Eminence. Some one brought him to the choir loft just as she was absorbed in a piece. She turned to him, shook his hand and said, Good Afternoon Father. :o He laughed.
