Hello everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here, so I’m glad to be back.

What is the official teaching or maybe viewpoint of having the Sacrament of Confession during the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?

I know that in the Tridentine Rite this was a common practice for priests to hold confessions during Mass so those that were not worthy to receive the Eucharist could have their sins forgiven before receiving.

Any teachings, thoughts, or comments are welcome!

God Bless 😃

Yes is permitted. One though of course is to fulfill ones Mass obligation too…so time it well.

[76.] Furthermore, according to a most ancient tradition of the Roman Church, it is not permissible to unite the Sacrament of Penance to the Mass in such a way that they become a single liturgical celebration. This does not exclude, however, that Priests other than those celebrating or concelebrating the Mass might hear the confessions of the faithful who so desire, even in the same place where Mass is being celebrated, in order to meet the needs of those faithful.[158] This should nevertheless be done in an appropriate manner. vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/ccdds/documents/rc_con_ccdds_doc_20040423_redemptionis-sacramentum_en.html

That does need a little further explanation.

Generally speaking, that is about one priest hearing Confessions for* those not attending Mass* while a different priest is celebrating the Mass.

For those who are attending that Mass Confessions should be done before the Gospel begins (this is not to be a typical experience, though).

One still fulfills the Sunday Mass obligation if they go to confession during Mass, as they are “morally present” at Mass.

It’s ok to have confessions during Mass. It’s not common anymore, mainly because there’s often only one priest and he has to do the Mass.
