Confessor

I have heard it often mentioned that one may have a “confessor”. Could someone shed some light on this role to me?

It sounds as if I would choose one person to always confess to. My parish priest for example.

Would he remain my confessor after being moved to another parish?
It seems also that the instances that I’ve heard a confessor mentioned is usually in relation to someone living a vocation such as a priest or nun.

Any priest who actually hears confessions is a confessor. Any priest who has heard your confession was, in fact, your confessor.

One may have a regular confessor, indicating that there is one particular priest to whom one habitually goes to confession. This can be a particular help in certain circumstances of the spiritual life. It is, however, a distinct role from a spiritual director, for example.
