Confirmation and Laying of Hands

Greetings I have a simple question

I was doing some reading into confirmation and what the bible says about it and I noticed that in a couple of occurences when the CCC references the Bible they reference these passages

[BIBLEDRB]Acts 8:15-17[/BIBLEDRB] [BIBLEDRB]Acts 19:5-6[/BIBLEDRB] [BIBLEDRB]Hebrews 6:2[/BIBLEDRB]

they all talk about the laying of hands and I know these scriptures refer to confirmation mainly becuase CCC 1288 is part of the confirmation and the CCC references these passages when talking about confirmation.

Know when I was confirmed I know that they didn’t lay hands on me my bishop just made the sign of the cross with the Chrism Oil I think.

I know that the laying of hands involve alot more then this becuase when I attended a ordination last year laying of hands actually occurred.

could someone please explain this to me.

The laying on of hands does take place but in a generic way. If there is more than a couple of people to be confirmed the bishop or priest will say the prayer with his hands outstretched over the group. Since the laying on of hands is not the essential element of the sacrament (anointing with chrism and proper words are) it is permissible for a generic outstretched hands to substitute for individual laying on of hands.

During your confirmation, when he made the sign of the cross with the sacred chrism, he had part of his hand on your head, no?
