Confirmation Candidate - Rite Of Election Attendance?

Hi there,

As an adult Confirmation candidate, is it a prerequisite for me to attend the Rite Of Election ceremony?

I am very busy at the moment with work and issues that I am trying to resolve in my private life. We have a day of preparation for Confirmation next month which I will attend, and the actual Confirmation itself at the Easter Saturday Vigil. My sponsor, by the way, is one of those types that wishes to have a minimal (name removed by moderator)ut into my spiritual journey, so they won’t be bothered if I did not attend.

The Rite of Election is for catechumens (unbaptized) so you would not attend that at all.

If they have both the Rite of Election and the Call to Continuing Conversion for candidates then you would be participating in the latter.

No, attendance at the Rite is not required in order to be confirmed. Please talk to your RCIA coordinator about your scheduling issues.
 
Our parish has 1 cathecumen and 3 candidates and it’s all happening on the same day. We haven’t figured out when the scrutinies are though.

Scrutinies take place on the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sundays of Lent.

In our case, not necessarily because the RCIA director wants to get to all of them and our group is spread over 5 parishes. So the rite in Advent was at various Sunday vigal and Sunday morning masses. The same thing with the scrutinies is that she wants to be at all of them. I half jokingly, but seriously, this week said to her “You just tell us which masses we HAVE TO be at and that will be fine and we can go to other masses if we want”.
 
One purpose of RCIA is to build community. While not necessary, it is well if all participants attend all the rites, even those in which they are not participants. They go to support their fellow members.
