My catechism stopped around age 14 and I was never confirmed. What does Confirmation do?

Follow up: I’ve Baptism, Confession and Communion. As an adult now, not having ever joined a different religious body as a member, though I have worshiped elsewhere in the past, do I have any status in the Church?

In short Confirmation seals you with the Holy Spirit. It completes and finishes Baptism. It makes us “Soldiers of Christ” and "strictly obligates us to spread and defend the faith by both word and deed (ewtn.com/library/CATECHSM/CONFIRM1.HTM). It makes you a full fledged Catholic!

In the eyes of the Church, once you are baptized you are a Catholic forever, regardless how long you have stayed away or if you have worshipped extensively at other non Catholic places. If you do wish to resume, which, I’ll be straight forward I highly encourage you do, you only need to reconcile yourself with the Church and Christ through confession and you’ll be good to receive the sacraments again, like Confirmation.

As for what is Confirmation?
According to my Catechism: “Confirmation is the Sacrament through which the Holy Ghost comes to us in a special way and enables us to profess our Faith as strong and perfect Christians and soldiers of Jesus Christ”

The principle effects of Confirmation are:
  1. An increase of sanctifying grace received at Baptism.
  2. The strengthening of our Faith.
3)The Gifts of the Holy Ghost.
  3. An inedible mrk imprinted on our souls.
The Gifts of the Holy Ghost are: Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord.

Another definition for Confirmation offered is: “Confirmation is a Sacarment of the New Law, instituted by our Lord Jesus Christ, which strengthens the divine life in us, and gives to those who are baptized the Holy Ghost with all His gifts.”

Please allow me to suggest that you talk to a priest and find out how you can receive the sacrament of Confirmation.

Been there…three years ago.

I went with an open heart and mind to finish my journey…after 25 years away. BEST decision I made! I started it as something to check off…ya…I’ll finish confirmation and be done. Learned a lot about the church and fell in love with Christ all over again.
