Confirmation invalid if in mortal sin?

I knew I was in mortal sin when i was being confirmed (I know its disgusting ), but i was unaware that it might invalidate it. since then (two months ago) I have had a complete change of heart, feel awful, and will be going to confession tomorrow. I have heard that confirmation is still valid but you will not receive its’ graces until you return to a state of grace (after confession).

Will all be well again after confession?

I am pretty sure the confirmation is valid.

However, you probably also received the Eucharist at the same time. Doing so not in a state of grace is another mortal sin.

Be sure to confess everything to the priest. A big weight will be lifted from your shoulders and you will know for certain that your sins are forgiven and your relationship with God fully restored.

Who told you you were in mortal sin if only God can judge that.
Relax, man, and the the Holy Spirit was going into a person in mortal sin and, He is quite a weak Personality confused, would stay inside you doing nothing confused:) ???

Sinful yes (Bring all your moral sins to confession -in number and kind and any circumstance that changed them…like it was your brother you murdered…and it is very good to confess others too .)

Invalid…no…the character (seal) was placed upon you…and confirmation will again be a “living” reality after confession…

(when you confess…confess you did this…etc…and tell him what you knew about it at the time)

Then live the reality of your baptism and your confirmation…live in Christ!

your information was incorrect. nothing the candidate does can invalidate the sacrament of confirmation if it is conferred properly by the proper minister. What does happen is that if a candidate receives in the state of mortal sin he does not benefit from the graces and effects of the sacrament. The moment he returns to a state of grace through sacramental confession (or anointing of the sick if he cannot confess and receives that sacrament due to some need) he receives all the graces and the gifts of the Holy Spirit are now made available to him.

Note that the act of receiving any sacrament, other than Baptism and Confession, while in mortal sin is in itself a mortal sin and must be confessed.

If you were unaware of this, don’t obsess about it, but do mention it at your next Confession.

Yes, as others have said add receiving a sacrament without being in a state of grace to the list. Since you weren’t in a state of grace the grace from the sacrament was blocked but will be restored after you make a good confession.

ibo, you are the one confused. We all must form our consciences, in union with Catholic teaching, so that we will know what are sins and whether they are mortal or venial. If we do not do that we would not know what to confess in confession! We could be gaily going through life with our souls steeped in mortal sin!

If we do not judge our own thoughts and actions how will we ever grow in spirituality?

When our soul is in mortal sin, God (all three persons) will not be there. God cannot dwell where mortal sin abides.

Yes, only God can truly judge our culpability, but we, surely, must know we have committed mortal sin.

You can not held accountable for something you did not know was wrong.
But, if you have not confessed it yet, do it and explain that you did not know. All will be good!

Just some clarification: The OP knew he or she was in mortal sin. What was unknown was if the mortal sin invalidated the confirmation.
