Confirmation name - does it matter?

I requested a saint’s name as my Confirmation name, and the request was readily granted; however, this name was not used at all during Confirmation, and it does not appear on my certificate. I feel upset, mostly because it seems like ‘just one more thing’ .Can the certificate be changed, or should I just ignore it?

Are you the only one who did this? It may simply be an oversight. Though I must admit that I don’t recall ever seeing someone’s Confirmation name show up anywhere but the column in the Confirmation Register.

I think it was probably oversight. I was confirmed a few months ago but did not receive the certificate until the Easter vigil. Out of everyone who waited until the vigil, probably 80% were confirmed under the name of their patron saint.

Also, since I was not confirmed under the saint’s but rather my “real” name, is that the Confirmation name that I’m stuck with?

I’m not sure, but I know I was confirmed about 30 years ago as a teen, and I have forgotten which saint I chose. How much better had I truly made the saint a patron for myself and continued the prayers to her all these years, whether it was written down anywhere but on my heart or not. Congratulations on your confirmation!

My boys were confirmed at the Easter Vigil last night. Their patron saint’s name was not on the certificate. Somehow the people ahead of them in the line got out of order and Monsignor got about four people’s saint names wrong before someone was able to signal to him that the order was wrong! My middle son had chosen St John of God, but was confirmed as St Michael. My oldest had chosen St George, but he was called St John of God, and the guy next to my son ended up being called George. We figured it can’t hurt to have two saints - the one they chose and the one they got called.

Become a saint, so that you will come to be called St. Anodos. (well, insert your real name for Anodos … )

That way, centuries from now, people will say,
“I know, I want to choose St. Anodos for my patron saint,
and Anodos for my confirmation name …”
