Confirmation name... Mary

I am going to confirmed at this year’s Easter Vigil. I would like to use the name Mary as in “the Virgin Mary” but I am not sure if this name is off limits.

Why I chose Mary??? I have been attached to the Virgin for as long as I can remember. I feel that I have a close relationship with her and I just simply love her with all my heart I cannot explain it. When I think of her I just feel full of warmth and love.

Can you let me know if it is acceptable to use her as my confirmation name?

It’s perfectly fine to have Mary as a confirmation name, and I’m sure you will receive many graces through Our Lady’s intercession for honouring her in this way.

Good choice. My confirmation name is “Virginia,” to honor our Blessed Mother and my earthly mother.
 
In fact, it’s so acceptable that up to relatively recently (perhaps 1970’s) it was not uncommon for boys here in Ireland to choose the name ‘Mary’ at Confirmation! Mary is the most perfect model we have of listening to and accepting God’s will for us, so go ahead and take Mary’s name at your Confirmation & may you stay close to her always.
 
I chose the name Mary, so it had better be all right. I was confirmed on June 15, 1958. We were confirmed at a younger age than is common today!
 
I am also being Confirmed this year, I am only 13, and I am taking the Blessed Mother’s name to ,I think. I am like you I feel close to the Blessed Mother when I am in prayer. God Bless you and I will pray for you.

I chose my own name to confirm the name I was given at baptism. It’s not a very common thing though.
