When I was confirmed a few years ago, my church would not let me choose a confirmation name. They said that I had to use my Baptismal/middle name, to connect the two Sacraments. While I guess I can see where they were coming from, I had just kinda expected to be able to choose a name. I wanted Benedict or Mary (even though I am a guy) but they wouldn’t let me. Is it possible I can somehow get a confirmation name NOW? I know I can’t do the sacrament again, but I just want to associate my confirmation with a saint that I feel close to.

There is never anything wrong with choosing a patron Saint whom you pray to for his/her intercession. Even if you did not choose that particular Saint when you were confirmed, you may always choose him/her at a later point. Although your name may not reflect this Saint, the Saint and our Lord will know when you pray. Just ask your favourite Saint to intercede for you. He or she will pray to the Lord for you, whether or not he or she is officially your confirmation Saint.

I’m sure St Benedict and Mary were watching over your confirmation since you feel so close to them, and I’m sure they still do.

So even if you ain’t named after one of 'em you can still consider them your confirmation patrons.

YOU JUST HAVE TO REASON WITH THEM EVEN IF THEY DON’T WANT YOU TO HAVE A COMFIRMATION NAME,U CAN AS WELL KEEP THIS NAME TO YOUR VERY GOOD SELF AND PRAY TO THEM PRIVATELY

IS JUST BEING CALLED THE NAME OFFICIALLY THAT MATTERS,BUT HOW MUCH THIS SAINT AFFECT AND APPLIED TO YOUR LIFE, JUST EMULATE THEM AND PRAY THAT THEY INTERCEED ON YOUR BEHALF.

WITH GOD ALL THIS ARE POSSIBLE

After spotting the thread header, I was just glad to see that you weren’t trying to get confirmed as “hamburglar.”

Question, though: would a church hold to this birth-name stricture, even for someone born Protestant who wasn’t given a particularly Christian first or middle name? There are a lot of “Troys” and “Scotts” and “Megans” and “Heathers” out there; it seems strange that the Church would be opposed to someone’s taking a saint’s or patriarch’s name.

I am sorry that you were put through this humiliation. The person or persons who did this had neither the right nor the authority to add to the restriction of the use of a saint’s name. The church has insisted for centuries that baptismal and confirmation names be taken from the names of saints. I am not comfortable with even that restriction since, whatever my name may be “God isn’t finished with me yet.”
