So I’ll be confirmed this Easter. Thankfully, rather than go through the whole RCIA class starting this fall, the deacon at my parish has been meeting with me to do RCIA classes, condensed. We just had our last meeting today, so now I’m REALLY on the road!
Anyway, for my confirmation saint, I’ve been trying to decide between St. Padre Pio and St. Augustine—so advice on how to choose would be appreciated as well! But specifically for Padre Pio, “Pio” is “Pius” in Italian. So if Padre Pio were to be my confirmation saint, ought I choose Pius, his name in my language, or Pio, his name as he is most commonly called?
And again, how best should one decide between confirmation saints??

I picked mine when I was in high school and didn’t really know about the saints so I picked Anthony of Padua. And then he started popping up everywhere in my life to the point where I read his Sunday sermons every week after mass.

As for the name it doesn’t really matter if you want to go with Pius or Pio but most people know him as Padre Pio.

Augustine is also a great choice. Have you read any of his work?

Whoever you pick, make sure to ask for their intercession. I didn’t realize how appropriate Anthony was for me until years later when my fiancé came into the Church in his feast day. I don’t believe that was a coincidence. He quite literally found me a wife.

I’ve read Augustine’s Confessions, and I’m trying to work my way through City of God. I haven’t read much of anything from Padre Pio, but I’ve prayed about this, asking for both their prayers, as well as others from a shortlist, and they both stuck out.
