Sorry if this is the wrong place for this…

Just wondering - when you choose a confirmation Saint, does he/she have to be a ‘full-blown’ Saint or are those with the status ‘Blessed’ also acceptable?

A Confirmation name can be any Saint; Blessed or Biblical Figure.

Mine is a “Blessed”; After Bl. Duns Scotus.

A. Yes you are in the right place to post such a thread. If it concerns one of the 7 sacraments, then yes you can post them here.
B. Yes it is acceptable to chose a ‘Blessed’ for a confirmation name. The Church has already acknowledged their virtues and praises and are literally a stone’s throw away from being declared by the whole Church a Saint.

Thanks everyone!

The Blessed I have in mind died 911 years ago and, given current sensibilities and inter-faith considerations, seems unlikely to be declared a Saint any time soon…

Just to reinforce what’s already been posted: yes. Choosing the name of a Blessed is fine.

Thanks everyone!

By any chance is he Pope Urban II?

I’m no historian so I am guessing that you are making reference to the fact that Blessed Urban II initiated the First Crusade.

It is the name of your patron so know the virtues of your patron that you wish to emulate.

For Latin Church Catholics (Eastern Catholics do not receive a Chrismation name), anointing is done on the forehead (with chrism) with the words: “N … be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit”.

Baltimore Catechism No. 3

Q. 674. May one add a new name to his own at Confirmation?
A. One may and should add a new name to his own at Confirmation, especially when the name of a saint has not been given in Baptism.

One may also choose, fot their confirmation name, one of the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit, one of the 12 Fruits of the Holy Spirit, or even one of the Virtues.
