Hello,

I took the name Michael because I have had a special devotion to Saint Michael the Archangel since I was a child and determined at that young age to take it as my confirmation name.

When I was confirmed, we were told to use our middle name unless we had a good reason to choose a different one. I did and added the name of one of my best friends to my own name.

S.O.O. Dog:
I didn’t know that you had to use a saint when I was confirmed, I chose Nathan (David’s prophet). I didn’t think that he would help me see the future, but I hoped he would help me see things clearly. 🙂
I seem to remember that the prophets of the Old Testament are acceptable as confirmation names, because they are considered as saints.

I decided on my confirmation name because I loved the story of the saint, and it was my dear Grandma’s name. So it’s really special to me. 🙂

I chose Bl. Kateri Tekakwitha for these reasons below:
  1. Like others, she was a convert. Although she was raised in an environment of non-Christians (I do not know if her tribe believed in one God or many, since it differs with each tribe), she always carried her prayers from her deceased mother into her life.
  2. She refused to marry, having a calling to single life, and her desire of religious orders.
  3. She’s native. Aboriginal peoples of North America were naturally spiritual in their liberated past before the introduction of diseases, new materials (alcohol for one) and foreign concepts of Europe.
  4. She chose to believe, and faced difficulties by her fellow Mowhawks of the turtle clan because of it. She ran away from her own tribe, partly scarred from the smallpox in her childhood.
  5. She mortified herself in every way, because she felt unworthy. By burning her feet, fasting and rosary prayers, flagellation, etc.
  6. Her favourite symbol was the Cross, and she reverently adored the Eucharist every day in the chapel.
She is such a beautiful individual, and I believe that she already is a Saint in Heaven, receiving beatified vision. 😃

I kinda wanted to hear from some of the other who chose their names at random, much like I did. Have you found that in any way that it was providential? I think mine might be, but I haven’t found that much information on my saint so its hard to tell.
