Ok, I’m supposed to think up of a name to be my confirmation name…

I don’t know which name to have for the confirmation name…any ideas please?

Mine’s Patrick. It was my father’s and grandfather’s.

John

Step 1. pray.
Step 2. Buy, borrow, beg or peek into a book of saints’ names.
Step 3. Pray.
step 4. Choose.

Yea, surely you should pray about it and find a book about the lives of the saints. Look through them and see if any of them remind you of you or seem inspiring for your own spirituality.

God Bless,
Matt

Is there a Saint that you feel drawn to?
Is there a Saint that is especially close to your family?
I was going through my husband’s geneology and found out that there were a lot of Joseph’s and Theresa’s. My husband’s family comes from Engelberg in Switzerland and settled in Mt. Angel in Oregon. They are very devoted to Angels I named my son, Michael. When he was young he said that when he grew up he was going to fight evil!

How about the saint whose Feast Day is your birthday? My dad is 12/26, St. Stephen. His Confirmation name is Stephen. Another idea is tobase it on the name of the church where you will be Confirmed, in my case St. Anne. My older daughter has severe vision problems so her Confirmation name is Lucy.
My point is there are so many events/places that have significance in our lives that a saint naturally fits into and that can be factored into our choice.

You can opt for your baptismal name, in fact that’s encouraged by many parishes.

Do you have a favourite Saint that you feel close to or identify with? Spend some time looking into saints lives and see who inspires you!
