Confirmation Party more like Bar/Bat Mitvah?

We did this for first communion but not confirmation. On a practical level confirmations are a large diocese wide ceremony with restrictions on how many family members you could bring. First communions were smaller and split over multiple weekends so the extended family could fit.
 
I suppose in communities where the children being confirmed have a lot of Jewish friends, they think they want to have a party too.
