Confirmation Patron Saints

My son is preparing for Confirmation and we are researching Saints who are Patron Saints for artists. We’re coming up with Saint Luke, and little information on Saint Lazarus the Painter. This may be a silly question, but I’ll ask anyway. Can any Saint be chosen to be someone’s Patron Saint, or are there certain Saints that are not to be used as one’s Patron?

Pick whoever you want. Even if you don’t want a patron saint, I guess that’s fine too. It’s a custom here, but you don’t have to have one. In fact, people in many countries don’t even know what patron saints are.

Mine was San Diego, The bishop had his assistant put me to the side because he wanted to tell me how empressed he was with the name I picked. He said he was used to all the comman names and that mine stood out to him because of it’s rarity.

We encourage the students to use their Baptismal Saint. Most of them have never thought about him/her. The Baptismal Saint(s) is your original patron.

I have read that in the medieval Cathedrals there was always an image of Saint Veronica as the patron of artists. Her name translates “True Icon” and was to remind them that only a saint can be a true image of Jesus.

My Confirmation saint was Saint Josemaria Escriva after the priest who founded Opus Dei as well as to honor Our Lady and Saint Joseph.
