Hello, I have recently gone to confession, and confessed all my mortal sins, but soon after, temptation got to me and I committed a mortal sin again. I feel extremely guilty because I know that I need to be in a state of grace for Confirmation which is coming up shortly. I’m only 14 so I can’t drive to get to confession. Please help! I looked all over the internet for prayers to help me, and I just feel like God hates me, and will hate me even more when I receive Confirmation without being in a state of grace. Can I just ask God to forgive me? Do you have to be in a state of grace or else it’s an unforgivable sin? PLEASE HELP! I feel so guilty!

Ok, don’t panic! It’s ok. When is the confirmation? The best bet is to contact one of your priests and schedule a confession. If you explain the situation, I’m sure they’d be more than happy to help out and meet up with you somehow. Maybe before or after class? It depends on your situation and schedule.

That is the 1st and best option. If that is not possible, do you best to make a perfect act of contrition and get to confession as soon as possible for you. The graces from the sacrament will still come to you, even if the confession you make is after the confirmation.

Good Answer, GaryJohn,
that is what I was going to reccommend. The fact that you are trying and know that you will get to confession as soon as possible is wonderful! Call the priest, ASAP or any other priest in your area. I will pray for you and your journey into a new era of your Catholic life. Congratulations!!

I don’t Think that I will be able to call the priest to schedule a confession. I just need to know that I can still receive the sacrament, and not be a disgrace to God, by not being free of sin. I have prayed the act of perfect contrition so many times. I just watn God to know that I am sorry.

Heyy, calm down. Everything is going to be okay. God does know you’re sorry. If you feel this bad you need to go to confession. It’ll be okay after that. I’ll be praying for you, bro, don’t stress!

Yes, you can still receive the sacrament and go to confession afterwards, so do not fear. Especially if your act of contrition was perfect and true…you will be fine. Take part in the sacrament fully, and be at peace! You are becoming an adult in the eyes of the church, so don’t allow this to distract you too much! 🙂

Still go to confession as soon as possible later though. Who knows, maybe you will see a priest passing through the hall and you can have an impromptu confession if the time is available. God knows your heart, and he is merciful. Congrats on doing confirmation!

Howdy,
My brother(BGR15) and I are being confirmed too and we’re worried too. We keep trying to cut the habits but they just sneak up on us. We contacted the church and the priest said that we can schedule and appointment before we meet.

So, at least your not the only one 👍

1310 To receive Confirmation one must be in a state of grace. One should receive the
sacrament of Penance in order to be cleansed for the gift of the Holy Spirit. More
intense prayer should prepare one to receive the strength and graces of the Holy Spirit
with docility and readiness to act.126.

If you are confirmed without being in a state of grace, you are still confirmed, but you may not receive all the graces until you are in a state of grace.

Can your parents drive you to confession? Or how about asking the priest to absolve you shortly before the Mass where you will be confirmed? Like the others said, you can still receive the sacrament, but it sounds like going to confession would help with your own peace of mind.

Am I the only person who this has happened to? Getting confirmed without being free of sin? Or do many people get confirmed without being free of sin and then go to confession later?

I was in the same situation, but I was able to get an appointment for later today to confess. I’m sure there have been people who have been confirmed in the same state your in. You just to make sure you get to confession as soon as possible after confirmation.

I also recommend you call your parish office and tell them your situation, perhaps they can arrange something for you.:hmmm:

I have seen a few teenagers getting in the confession line just a few minutes before the rite of confirmation started. Just talk to your parents and call the parish, and if nobody answer at the parish drive there at least 30 minutes before the services start and chase down the priest. do not give up, plan to be confirmed without being in a state of mortal sin.

I made a confession to a priest who was available on the day of my Confirmation. I was confirmed about one hour later.

If your heart is turned towards god, truly, he knows it. ask for forgiveness. He knows we r sinners and will continue todo so. Try to the best of your ability to refrain from this sin and go and be confirmed. God will be with you.

Don’t panic. You say you have undergone perfect contrition, given that and the fact that you are quite literally unable to attend confession, that is enough to expunge sin from your soul, PROVIDING that you attend confession at the nearest possible opportunity…chase down your priest post haste after the mass, before if you are able, but after and ASAP. I will pray for you!👍

There is no reason to receive Confirmation in the state of mortal sin. Call your priest and ask to meet him before Confirmation to hear your Confession. It should be something your priest will absolutely understand and will want to remedy for your reception of the Sacrament.

People please do not give false information. The OP must go to confession before being confirmed, any other argument is a rationalization for not doing so. He has an obligation to tell his parents and his priest that he is not not in a state to be confirmed and that he needs confession. He needs to get his act straight now. Rationalizing that it is too late and that he has perfect contrition it is inviting the OP to sin and that is a sinful act by itself. The OP never said and quite probably he could not even say if he has perfect contrition.

I’ll say a prayer that you can arrange to go to confession before your Confirmation.
