Confirmation Preparation at your Parish

Sorry if I took the thread off track with the comments on teaching of human sexuality. I realize that it is not part of confirmation prep, but in my parish, it is presented as an integral component, and compared to the other information presented it seems to be the most important aspect.

I am very interested in learning what is done in other parishes.

Baby Sister… My daughter will be taking it next year in Theology… I saw the school Chaplain reviewing it and asked him about it. It isn’t part of Confirmation prep, just part of the curiculum at Catholic HS she attends.

it is canon law that a person who is considered an adult for the purposes of the sacraments of initiation (over age 7) may not be compelled to receive any sacrament. If your parish ignores this law or fails to communicate the nature and theology of the sacrament, they are not orthodox. The same teaching must include the fact that it is the Bishop who confirms, not the candidate, not the parent, not the sponsor.

Quite the contrary! Nobody is compelled to receive the sacrament after age 7. I never meant that. A teacher was corrected for telling the class they, as individuals, were doing the confirming (nope). Several parents in the catechesis for parents also had this idea (nope).

The bishop had a papal appointment and had to squeeze 14 parishes into 4 nights. So the non-essentials not strictly required, such as service hours, were waived in favor of solid, basic preparation. Bishop Doran is one of the most orthodox bishops we have today. Here’s to the restoration of his health, and his continued service.
