My daughter is making her confirmation next month. My sister was confirmed when I was only three (which I don’t have a memory of) and I, being a rebellious teen, didn’t get confirmed until I was an adult. I’m really not sure how things go with a regular confirmation. Is it something you invite family and friends to? Should I be having some kind of party after or more of a quiet dinner? My best friend, who is protestant, kind of asked about it yesterday. Her family attended both my daughter’s baptism (with a celebratory dinner with family and friends afterward) and her first communion (and party afterward). Should I be planning something for afterward. What did you guys do for your kids confirmations?

We did a family dinner after - BBQ 🙂

When our Parish hosts Confirmation, the Parish has a reception with a dinner for the families, so, you might check what your Parish is doing.

My parents were all show. If relatives came, then they had a little party, if they didn’t than no party. The party usually consisted of food, and then sit around. It was more like a come over for dinner just because thing. As for who you might invite, I suppose that might depend on whether or not this is Easter Vigil or the regularly scheduled confirmation of young people. The Easter Vigil is always much longer than a regular mass, but the scheduled confirmation is likely to have the Bishop of your diocese celebrating. Just relax.😃

Ask the parish if they plan to have a reception afterwards.

And, ask your daughter what she would like to do. It is appropriate to celebrate with family and friends, either at home or going out to eat, etc. And, yes, invite them to the Mass-- but check on seating space, etc, with the parish.

I guess I’ll send of an email to her catechism teacher, as far as I know I don’t think their having anything afterward. Its not happening at Easter vigil, it almost at the end of next month. Thanks for the suggestions.

Obviously the child’s Godparents should be invited.
Then I’d invite grandparents, aunts, uncles, any special friends your child wishes to invite. We will be going through confirmation in 2 years. I didn’t do much for First Holy Communion, but I probably will for Confirmation, perhaps dinner out with the invited guests. It will depend on what the parish does.
