A person needs to be in a sate of grace every moment of his life! 😛

Indeed. Big events, such as confirmation, marriage, ordination, taking religious vows, are always best approached after making a good confession – even a general confession in some cases.

okay then. is it also possible to receive confession after confirmation?

yes, one must be in a state of sanctifying grace to receive Eucharist, Confirmation, Matrimony and Holy Orders. Baptism of course remits original sin and all actual sin, and and adult is usually confirmed immediately after he is baptized, and receives first communion at the same time, so is in a state of grace. First communicants must be prepared for and given the opportunity fo confession before 1st communion. For their first confession they should confess all their sins, even though if they have no mortal sins.

Candidates for ordination generally precede the ordination with a retreat and general confession. If one is conscious of mortal sin they must go to confession before First Communion Confirmation or Matrimony. Ample opportunities are usually provided during most sacramental preparation programs for candidates to learn about the sacrament of prenance and reconciliation, examine their consciences and go to confession.
If someone has been confirmed or married without confessing their mortal sins first they should confess at the first opportunity (like, call a priest and make an appointment today) and make a general confession, including the sacrilege of receiving the sacrament without confession, and absolution then renders your reception of the sacrament complete and effective.

Confirmation is the sacrament which specifically invokes the Holy Spirit, who is a loving God and who will not come to an unwilling unreceptive heart. Mortal sin has separated us from God so God cannot come to us until we confess and are absolved of the cause of that separation.

Patrick, you may (and should!) come to Confession frequently as you ponder your own life and reflect upon its defections from the love of God, which he has shown us through the Commandments, the Beatitudes, and most of all through the example of his life. You are receiving a very great grace in even asking this question. God love ya!

I see from your profile that you are 13 years old? Did you know that I have been praying for you every day? Every day, I recite the 1st 32 verses of Psalm 119. And when I come to verse 9, I ask the Lord to remember all young people who are seeking him (and those who are not!):

“How shall a young man cleanse his way? Even by ruling himself after thy word.”

Cruise the 'net for examples of guides for the examination of conscience. Here is one. There are many.

The Holy Spirit has you in his crosshairs Patrick. Stay there!

Thanks mercygate for praying for me… 🙂
yeah the Holy Spirit does seem to have me in crosshairs…
really, really thanks man… 🙂

we have a team of prayer warriors who prays daily not only for our own parish Confirmation candidates, but for all of you, so prepare to be sock-walloped by the Holy Spirit when the time comes. yes of course you can go to confession after confirmation, and should continue regularly. Once a month is not too often, and at least during Advent and Lent each year. If you have the misfortune to commit a mortal sin, go immediately.

Yes a person needs to ne in a state of grace to receive any Sacrament except Reconciliation or Anointing (except in certain circumstances.) Receiving Confirmation with unknown Mortal sin would impead the Grace of the Sacrament until your next Confession. The Sacrament would be received validly. To receive Confirmation with known mortal sin is committing another grave sin. You would need to confes not only the original mortal sin but also the fact the you intentionally received Confirmation not in a state of grace.

Just for Clarity, the Church says that you must be in a state of Grace to recieve the Sacrament, however, if you are not, the graces received in the Sacrament still are effected.

You’re ability to utilize the graces recieved at confirmation are severely hampered if you are not in a state of grace upon reception.

Capeesh?

So even if the person confirmed is in a state of mortal sin, the graces are still there but they are being blocked until he goes to confession? ok then. 👍

Yeah, he launched me with a “forgiveness” and “gifts” and “courage to spread the faith” missile. 😃

then i went to the base camp and told of my betrayal to the general. the general, being a kind man, forgave me and permitted me to stay and eat at His house. 😃 🙂

By the way, thanks to all members of these forums, especially those who pray for me.
your prayers are a great help.
Thank you. 🙂

BTW again, can someone explain why i have this feeling that i am happy for some unexplained and mysterious reason?
I feel happy inside and the reasons are mysterious but it feels like i’m gonna burst from this happiness. 😃

Patrick, you are one fun kid! congratulations.

I take it you went to confession as well as having received Confirmation?

Great start! Enjoy the “happy” feeling you have, and when the hard times come, look back on it, and use it for field rations.
