Confirmation Question

Can anyone recommend a priest in the Southern California area who would be willing to Confirm my brother and I ASAP. My brother is 21 and I am 23 and we both feel that we have put off Confirmation for too long and now understand that it is a serious obligation to be Confirmed as soon as possible. In my Diocese, however, they make you do a six month RCIA class, which my brother and I feel is totally unneccessary as we are both already baptzied Catholics with a firm understanding of the basic teachings of the Church. So I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could let us know of a priest who would we be able to confirm us as soon as possible. Thank you so much for your help.
 
If you have waited this long, what is the rush over 6 months? Are you so knowledgable about your faith that you cannot learn anything? Slow down, relax, and try to approach this sacrament as what it really is: the completion of your introduction into the Church.

There are three sacraments of initiation into the Church: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation. Confirmation is not the end, but the end of the beginning. You will have the responsibility after Confirmation to continue in your growth as a member of the Body of Christ; the preparation time before that is not simply preparation for reception of the sacrament, but for your continued growth and participation in the Church.
 
I know that I still have a lot to learn about my faith, however I don’t think that taking a class intended for people who are un-baptized converts to Catholicism would be of a great help. However, I would have no problem taking a class that consisted of a colllege level study of Catholic Theology, but that is not offered in my diocese.

RCIA classes are not only for the un-baptised, non-Christians.
I was a baptised Methodist and went through one year of RCIA before converting to the Catholic Church.
Also in my class were long time confirmed Catholics who wanted to learn more about their Faith. Don’t you want to learn more than the BASICS?
 
In my parish we have a program specifically for people seeking confuirmation. It does take eight weeks.

Talk to your parish priest directly. Although there may well be diocesan rules, they can certainly be waived if the priest is satisfied that you are already prepared.

Another priest is very unlikely to want to step on your priest’s toes and confirm you behind his back.
 
We don’t really have a regular priest in my parish, they are always rotating them through.

it is the bishop who confirms, at the time and place he determines, and it is the bishop who grants certain priests the faculty to confirm at specific times and places. it is the bishop who confirms your baptism, not you who confirm your choice to remain Catholic and complete your Christian initiation. You give evidence of being able to benefit from some more instruction on the sacraments, their effects, and the reason for their establishment. A six month preparation for Confirmation is minimal (not RCIA for baptized Catholics, but Confirmation preparation), it is usually two years.

Ok I am in an RCIA class I was baptised Lutheran, I am in this class with my fiance she is baptised Catholic,U]they use the RCIA class for baptism and confirmation she started the class before me but I was attending with her with no consideration to conversion. However now i am am converting.
I am 40 yrs old and I have a good understanding of many religions
yet i am learning lots everytime i go to class,I look forward to the classes, matter of fact there are 7 people in our class only one is there for Baptismal,

I have been involved in many discussions with the Father of our church my fiance gets upset sometimes cause our premarital classes are lasting so long because of this,its not from my lack of knowledge that we have these discussions.

the way i am thinking now is confirmation is a sacrament,
which means its “valuable” anything worth value is not worth a shortcut. before downgrading the class sit in on one i think you will be surprised and challenged…

A priest under normal circumstances cannot just celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation on his own initiative. The Bishop is the ordinary minister of Confirmation. So the proper question would be “Can anyone recommend a BISHOP in the Southern California area who would be willing to Confirm my brother and I ASAP?”

Time to go back to religion class.

But you might help them! Maybe that is the “service” that Christ wants you to perform prior to Confirmation!
 
This thread seems to miss the point of confirmation, it’s a fulfilment of the gifts of the spirit. It doesn’t require classes or community service to receive it.

That’s not quite correct. The CCC states preparation through catechesis is required.

CCC 1309 Preparation for Confirmation should aim at leading the Christian toward a more intimate union with Christ and a more lively familiarity with the Holy Spirit - his actions, his gifts, and his biddings - in order to be more capable of assuming the apostolic responsibilities of Christian life. To this end catechesis for Confirmation should strive to awaken a sense of belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ, the universal Church as well as the parish community. The latter bears special responsibility for the preparation of confirmands.
