Confirmation Retreats

Hey all-

I need some (name removed by moderator)ut on Confirmation Retreat programming. We have been running the same Confirmation retreat programming for the past eight years. Our Confirmation coordinator helped put it together and is hesitant to any change. We put on two overnight (away from church) retreats each year - Fall and Spring.

I know it depends on the diocese, but dose your program include a retreat? Two retreats?

Are the retreats overnight or one day?

Any favorite retreat programs/models used?

I just had the privilege of attending (as a catechist/“chaperone”) an absolutely wonderful all-day Saturday Confirmation retreat put on by a group called “Children of God Youth Evangelization” (COGYE). This is a group of teens (with adult advisors) who spend one Saturday a month traveling around and putting on retreats for children and teens.

It included wonderful, engaging skits; praise and worship music (some very talented musicians among their members); witness talks given by the teens on topics such as the sacraments, vocations, chastity, etc.; small group discussions; a full hour of Eucharistic Adoration; and closing with Mass. (The day usually includes the Sacrament of Reconciliation, as any Confirmation retreat should, but this particular group of children had gone to confession the night before.)

It was wonderful seeing these teens witnessing their faith to other young people, and the students seemed to enjoy it.

They have also done a First Communion retreat for our parish, which was very beautiful.

Parents of the Confirmation students are invited to stay the whole day, and the adult members of the team share their faith with the parents while the teens are working with the kids in the discussion sessions.

I had my confirmation retreat three years ago and it was a life changing retreat. It was a two over-night retreat. Friday night through Sunday. It was called “This Is My Body” which is based off of The Theology Of The Body by Pope John Paul the 2nd. I am more then willing to refer you to my high school youth minister if you want anymore information. I bet he’d be more then willing to tell you about it. Just private message me and I’ll tell you more.

Some things that were included was praise and worship before every session. Two skits; one about adam and eve but modern, the other a skit played to the song Bring Me To Life by: Evanescence. Adoration on Saturday night. I can’t remember if it was four or five sessions based off of The Theology Of The Body. Then ended with the LifeTeen mass back at the church.
